I've never even heard of pirated books. I have always read books either as the real thing or on audio, which is still not stolen.
I do read public domain books on audio for free sometimes, but that is totally legal as they are not professional recordings and the books are in public domain.

Audiobooks are books on CD (or if you're looking at older audiobooks, then cassette tapes). Basically, it is the book read to you by professional readers. That way you can just listen rather than spending the effort actually trying to read on paper.

This is a good question on taking moral responsibility as an educated individual who understands the sanctity of Intellectual Property. There was one instance of my buying a pirated book: The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. As I read through the contents of the book, I was impressed by the seriousness of the message the first thing I did was to go to a regular book shop and buy the original bound book at a price sold in India- which in itself is marked down compared to the Internationa Market. This was the only time when I bought a pirated book I must say. I love books and knowledge. I have the highest regard for the minds that engage in disseminating knowledge. Hence it was a form of repentence.

Yeah I do. Otherwise which if I cannot afford I do go for the library. But after reading a library borrowed copy if I like so much that I would like to possess a copy I will buy the original. Unless of course if the book ids out of print and I need to photocopy it.

thats great mahn....u shud change ur name to GA(N)DHISUNU then..nice that u stick to copyright policies.but i have a doubt if libraries themselves row up fake copies.in ma college libraru the books in fiction section were mostly fakes.

No, I've never bought pirated books, nor movies for that matter. I think when somebody does that, then the company (whoever) makes the pirated copies is the one making the money and profiting from somebody elses work. I look at it this way, if I wrote a book, I'd be disappointed if somebody else earned the money for it...it's not like they wrote it and put the hard work into it. Just like that warning at the beginning of a movie, pirated goods are stealing, plain and simple. I would never purchase something that was illegal like that, it wouldn't be right. Better to buy it at a discount when it's on sale, or borrow it from the library.

I usually use the library for reading and that is free and I can search books on line. In the meantime, it is always nice to exchange books with friends. Maybe there is a web site out there that would act like a library so people would not be reduced to pirating. All in all, it would bother me to pirate but I understand if there are societies that are built this way and a person loves to read and cannot get books from a library or free source like that.

instead of exchanging books, how abt the idea of pooling in money and buy...that would check piracy too..it takes a lot of hardwork for any author to write down and lots of investment for publisher to market it..going for fakes n passing among fiends
is a discouragement shown to author...wha do u say??
