In addition, a hard disk with a greater spinning rate does help to speed up data transfer to and from the disk. The downside is it creates a greater amount of heat.
Solid state storage devices do not use any moving parts, so the above does not apply.

There are a lot of ways to speed up your computer. The first and most important step is to download anti-malware protection, as mal-ware will definitely slow down your pc not matter how good the hardisk and RAM is. I would recommend Malware-bytes, which is a trusted anti-malware supplier and has won various awards.
The second way that can speed up your computer is upgrade not your disk space, but RAM will definitely help. It really depends on how old your computer is and what the specs are.
There are various other ways to speed and optimize but, not being a computer expert my self but very tech savvy, you have to try Advanced System Care, as it is a great way to help you delete junk files on your computer. I t also has an automatic registry cleaner, which is something ordinary people know nothing about. It is very user -friendly, and is great to speed up any computer!
What hard disk space is actually the amount of physical space that you can put files on, and if you have more, it can help with placing more files, but not necessarily speed. You can pick up a 1 terabyte ( 1000 gigabyte) hardisk for less than 100$ so it is a great investment if you have a lot of media files like games , videos or music.

PC speed does not depend on hard disk but it is dependent of your RAM and also the main factor is your processor and mother board. The match between mother board, RAM, processor should be well. Speed of a computer cannot be determind based on only 1 factor into consideration. So all of the mentioned should be noticed so as to get an efficient output. And upgrading your hard disk is nothing to do with the speed of your computer. Ya it matters a bit if you are opting for 500GB hard disk a bit of the performance is tampered say in 100% might be around 1 or 2% and this does not make big difference. Let me know with which configuration have you updated.

Keep your computer from malwares and viruses.. and if you really want to speed up you computer literally, not only the harddrive and memory that you need to upgrade.. but so as your processor.. That's the number 1.. then you can upgrade your memory.. then the harddisk..
