Hi myLotters, as you know, there are lots of movie out there which adapted into movies. Some of them generate success (last year's Q&A to Slumdog Millionaire, LOTR etc), some are a failure (Memoirs of Geisha, until now, I still regret how the movie was made, it does not capture the beauty of the book). Do you have certain books yo read and feel it will be awesome if you see real actors playing the character? For me, it's Abarat Trilogy by Clive Barker. It's full of fantasy about a young girl travelling to unknown world where she met evil an good people and finally fighting for the survival of herself. I imagine if it is a live action movie, it will be full of special effects because a lot of weird creatures, and the story will also be very great for a movie. So, any wish for the studio? Maybe some studio exec also myLot members and reading your wish list lol!

I think eat pray love might be good as a movie. There are several possibilities amongst the best sellers out there so I dont really know which would be the best but I think there are many things that could be adapted for the big screen. I just think there will be many good books that will eventually become screenplays.

Yes, there are a lot of books which are good to be screenplays, but it is up to the screenwriter how they translate the magic of those words to real live action, cause it is hard to capture the mood, the setting, the conversation compress to one movie with 2 hours duration. Thanks for the response snowy!

I actually liked Memoirs of a Geisha. Even though I also read the book. At least the story was somewhat captured.
But I was disappointed in My Sister's Keeper, which was probably one of the most long awaited book to movie transformations for me. I was so mad that the ending was completely changed!
My favorite adaptation was by far Bridge to Terabithia. Love that one!
I can hardly wait for The Time Traveler's Wife too and I really hope that one won't be disappointing.
Other than that... hmm, it's hard for me to imagine books as movies until they are actually made. A lot of the books I read really couldn't be made into movies. However, "19 Minutes" might make a good movie if they can stand to keep the ending right.

I really like Memoirs of A Geisha, but the movie is too Westernized I think, besides, it did not capture the intricacy of Japanese Geisha itself, when I watch the movie, I think it's just another love story. For Bridge of Terabithia, I haven't read the book, but watched the movie, and I love it. First little bit dissapointed cause it's hyped as a movie from Walden Media, the studio which brought Narnia, apparently there's only a little bit of fantasy. But as the story goes, it is a truly great story about love and friendship in such a young age, although it ended sadly. One thing about the movie, I really remember the opening score, it's so lavish and greatly composed. Thanks for the response!

The Russian novel "The Master and Margareta". It's a fantasy which would give plenty of scope to modern computer generated film making. Look it up on Amazon if you want to know what it's all about.

Adapted many literary works have not been successful after the film, reading and watching movies are two different kinds of enjoyment. Deep memory allows you to read ,but I do not oppose the wonderfulfilm.

I understand what you are saying. But sometimes, it is fun to know what the book is really like in a live action movie than just imagining it in our mind. Like Harry Potter for example. i enjoyed the books a lot, but hard to imagine how is Hogwarts castle, the environment, the magic etc. After watched the movie, it helps me to understand the novel better.

I would love to see The Pillars of the Earth by Ted Follet made into a movie, that book has been the best book I have ever read. I would also like to see A Bride Most Begrudging and The Measure Of A Lady turned into movies. Great topic!

Ah, The Alchemist. I think many people want this book to be filmed. In fact, it already been under development. Laurence Fishburne was cast as the guy who was on a treasure quest. I looked at imdb, the release date is still undetermined but it will be in 2009,I hope it will be a great movie. Thanks for the response!

Hmmm... usually I don't like movies that are made from books I like. Very often they fail miserably (Battlefield Earth is the best example). The LOTR was actually pretty well done. I enjoy those movies as much as I enjoyed the books. There's a few series that I wouldn't mind seeing made into movies as long as they were done right. The Mayfield Witch books by Anne Rice, The Wheel Of Time series by Robert Jordan would be sweet, and the Redemption Series by Karen Kingsbury would be so emotionally touching as movies. Those are just a few I like to see.

I think they should do the Daughters of Fortune series, which was written by Judith Pella. It's set during the 1940s - before and during World War II. This is a good series. Although, I have they feeling they'd either have to make it into parts, have a really long movie, or take our parts. These are really full stories.

One of the books I read that i LOVED and then watched the movie was The Princess Bride. The book was great! I really loved it. Unfortunately, when i watched the movie i was pretty disappointed. The only thing that really kept my interest was how hot Wesley was and how funny some of the characters were. It really upset me, however, how they didnt capture a lot of the feeling in the book. They made the movie more humorous- which isnt horrible, but it definately wasnt the book. Also, Interview with the Vampire was a disappointing movie compared to the book. I tried to like it, but it bugged me how off it was. If they would have just gone with the book's story, it would have been WAY better anyways. One book I wish they would make into a movie is this one i read when i was really young. I will NEVER remember what it was called, but it involved two separate worlds and a necklace that kept the girl that transfered worlds somehow connected or gave her powers. like i said, it's been a long time since i read it, but i remember LOVING it when i did.

I read these books about ten years ago. When I finished the first book, I couldn't stand to wait to get the second book. Mark of the Lion Series: A Voice in the Wind, An Echo in the Darkness, As Sure As the Dawn (Vol 1-3) by Francine Rivers. Although it is Christian based and probably more appealing to female readers, I have always thought this series would make a great movie or two or three. They are historically based during Roman times and that is a favorite era for me anyway. I lent the books to a person who lived out of town and they loved it so much that they sent me the money for me to get a new set. I was impressed that they would have loved them this much also.

What is it about? Yep, before adapting it to the movie, of course the studio will do a market research, what gender or customers the movie is targeted, how much the movie will cost etc. But sometimes every year there's a movie which unexpectedly became box office hit, for Christian based, take Passion of The Christ (which adapted from Bible of course)..Dunno about book you mentioned, but I am sure it's a great book. Thanks for the response!

Oh I would love if they could take Diana Gabaldon's Highlander series and make movies from them, then again I would hate to see them butcher them as well or switch directors every other film like they do with the Harry Potter movies giving each a totally diffrent and sometimes wrong feeling. But any way Diana Gabaldon's books and I would be interested in seeing some of the teenage chillers from Christopher Pike come about.
The Highlander series is about a Woman who steps through Scottish standing stones (like Stonehenge) and finds herself 200 years in the past, trying to not only figure out what happened how to get back and how to survive. Of coarse she falls in love and that is a huge part of it but if even a fraction of the battle scenes and humor are left intact it would be awesome. The following books in series follows the characters through the Stuart Uprising through the revolutionary war (yes one book is the trip to America)

The Greatest Salesman in the World (both parts) & the works of Khalil Gibran. Short stories on those would be nice.

Absolutely agree with you! I love The Bartimaeus Trilogy, actually I think it is better be made after all the Harry Potter series come out, to fill the hole of magic and wizardy movies after HP, although the stories is not similar at all. Bartimaeus is darker, wittier, but also contains a lot of (dark) humor which we rarely see in fantasy book. But I wonder how they translate all those footnotes in the book, because it makes this book special. I heard it will be adapted to movie and released in 2010, but is it really happened? I heard the news since like a year ago and until now haven't got updates on the movie...Thanks for the response!
