My sony digital camera is broken down. It can only show the photos stored, but do not function for new photoing. What comes out on screen are the vertical colored lines. Maybe for exposure to rain, or drop on ground? Any of my friends could help with advice, whether it is worthwhile to repair the digital camera.

I don't repair those small item, being the reason it's now getting more and more advance, and stuff are getting cheaper too. I would rather buy a new one if that camera is faulty and if I have used it for more than 3 years. No point repairing since I have got the necessary worth the years using it already.

If its still in the waranty period , then its fine, do check out from the retailer, but if its not, i feel its no use in getting it repaired.
If its out of the warranty period that means its already an old model, and you can get a brand new one, may be same model, at a much much cheaper price. And also these stuff if once gets damaged are really hard to repair . You repair one thing(pay so much), and after some time, some other part will go wrong, its so delicate...

zhuhuifen46,
I think it would better for you to send the camera to Sony's authorized after sales service center for an inspection and assessment. You can always decide after their assessment quotation as to whether to proceed with the repairs or buy a new one.
You may want to change to a new camera on the grounds of having the latest and enhanced models i.e. higher resolutions, advance applications and features.
Hope this will be a better option than second guessing here.
Have a nice day.

I have repair my digital camera once before but i just use it a few time after repair and it spoil again so i don't think it is worth to repair it. I can buy a new one for the repair cost that i paid.
Can buy the better and cheap one since the technology is advancing everyday.

hmm i am not sure how much is it to repair a digital camera, but i think it all depends on what part of the camera went wrong. so the price varies. I just got a new sony camera for about 100 something, if your digital camera is a little bit old, why not get a new one? if you are not that professional about taking pictures, you can probably get a good one, nothing fancy for about $80-$100 bucks. for me i will just get a new one unless your warranty is still there, then just sent it to company and i think they fix it for free.

Assuming your digital camera is no longer covered by warranty, I think it is more sensible to buy a new one financially. Buying a new one of course cost more but you get a brand new one that is likely not to break down soon. A repaired item, on the other hand, usually break down again very soon.
However, buying a new one means this old camera is going to be rubbish which is the last thing we want to add to our environment.
