Is it profitable for you, share your experiences so far. For those whom have not tried this, would you guys ever be interested. What's your take?

amazon's not bad-but check to see if your area is eligible first.
my state got kicked off their program because of the implemented online sales tax they did.

I think it is OK for people who want to work really hard (as though it were a real job) and have a clue what they are doing, but they would have to be willing to "build community" as I don't think it is something loners would be able to keep on top of on their own. There are a LOT of rules and tricks and insider things going on there. My preferred involvement personally would be through a third party site that takes a cut of the profits in exchange for handling all the gory details. I feel the same about PTW sites. That is why I like entities such as Triond and PayPerPost where you can do pretty much what you want to do and they do the work and make the money, but they give back a share.
A site called Squidoo is a good place, I think, for people who want to get their feet wet in the concept of putting Amazon items on a page without having to handle all the gory details on their own. In addition, for those who really don't want to work that hard, they provide track backs and pay modestly for page views. It isn't get-rich quick, or even get rich at all, but a fun way to learn things. My advice to people who ask is always the same: "Don't quit your day job!"

I have not tried it. I learnt about this from a course on internet marketing. Personally I feel affiliate marketing is workable but there is a lot of hardwork involved, or rather one need to put in a lot of time and effort to generate sufficient interest.

Although there is a certain amount of hard work involved, I would say that the success of affiliates depends on
1. how much traffic you can drive to your site
2. how likley it is that this traffic will want to buy the affiliate product
For instance there is no point taking part in a link exchange program and expect the mass of visitors (who are basically browsing random sites to build up some credits for their own site) to buy an affiliate product out of the blue.
You must have a sellable product and some good ideas about how to reach people who will buy this specific product.

My experience with affiliate marketing is not good. In fact, I never earned anything from such sites.

Affiliate marking requires some skills which if you are not aware then you will not benefit at all. I will give my example. I have a niche blog where I share information with rest of the world. It is mostly related to women. I joined Amazon affiliate program and started adding links and banners to their products from my blog. The first three months produced a $0 in commission. Then I realized that if I were to convince people into buying something, I have to be more specific, relevant and useful in any sense. This is where my first sales came from via affiliate marketing and since then I am able to sell stuff on regular basis.
Good luck !

I don't know enough about it but I think if you wrote about books and you had a link for Amazon or one of the other sellers it could be profitable.

I have not really had the opportunity to get into this kind of thing, but then again until very very recently I haven't really had that much of a website. my husband and I are in the process of getting a website up and running to market the books that we have published, and we're thinking of affiliate marketing with various book stores that sell the books.

That's so cool.. a friend here responded that she uses GoDaddy for domain. I think with low cost too. You can check that out but that is as far as online promotion is concerned.
However, like you said; these kind of things need some opportunities coming. Seemingly that you have the products, but you need the tools to market them as well. It's hard work, from my perspective but can be very rewarding once being it becomes a success.
But your idea of getting book stores to market your books; that's awesome. If you could get at least 3-5 book stores to market, then that will be very rewarding. Good luck for your quest.

I have been into affiliate marketing once, and i ended up being scammed by that stupid site inside, Paydotcom!! It's actually good earning revenue and that one need not work as hard to promote those products..
It helps best if one has got their own site instead, and all we need is to provide links to those products, we are affiliated to.. hehe ^_^ COmmission wise are always tempting enough, though start up might be slightly slow.. hehe ^_^
For me, i wont go back to that again, because i just dunno which companies to trust.. haha =D

Really? That's a bad experience, man...
I think giant companies like Ebay and Amazon might be cool, but I don't know..
I've never tried any before too; don't know in the future I should try or not. It can be a lot of hard work, I'm pretty sure..
