Would you go to an execution?

I just finished watching a rerun of Grey's Anatomy - The one where Meredith attends an execution of a serial killer. She was asked by him - he said it would be nice to have a friendly face in the crowd. The show kind of got me thinking...Would i go? I dont know if i would be able to go - i think watching someone die even if they were a murderer like the man portrayed in the show...would bother me too much. I'm not even sure what i think of capital punishment...On one hand i can understand wanting to see the person who killed you friend/family member dead but on the other hand doesnt performing the execution make the executioner a murderer too? I also dont understand the make the prisioner healthy and whole thing before they can be executed - doesnt that just cost the state, province, government more money in the end? I do know that i figure that prisioners in jail should have "work" at something so sort of career to better their situation as well as well not get a free ride just for doing something bad. How do you feel about capital punishment? The jail thing? and would you attend an execution? Why/why not?

Absolutely not. It would serve no purpose for me. I'm not a 'God Fearing' person but I do believe there is a kind of 'God' type justice. You know, what comes around goes around. Even if that person had murdered one of my own I wouldn't attend. It would be too late. My loved one would still be gone and his/her murderer along with him. Seeing people die day to day is hard enough. Couldn't put myself through the trauma of an execution.

The only way I would attend an execution it is that the person being executed is dear to me. I can say I only have a handful of those dear to me. I am not sure about capital punishment, to me the person who is charged has to be without a doubt guilty. The Jail thing, I am sure that's something that's we can debate all night long, punishment to them is supposed to be a plus in itself to society, we do not have to deal with them anymore. so it is right to me that us the society pay for that kind of comfort, knowing bad guys are in jail.

For most part i agree about the comfort of knowing the bad guys are in jail however..there are people who take advantage of the system. I had a friend in college who's brother was kicked out of the house for whatever reason and he went to jail...as soon as he got out of jail rather than getting a job or trying be "good" he'd purposely do something bad and get caught so he could go back to jail. Its cases like that that bug me.

There will always be someone taking advantage of the system, because one they know the system and two they feel that's the only option they had. To me someone who prefers to be in jail vs being homeless is doing that out of despair, maybe there is a mental illness, who really knows right? Sleeping in the street can't be that pleasant, and fighting for a spot at a homeless shelter is not that great either. All I know that most normal people do not want to be in jail or prison, if lets say in prison they found a way to make the prisoners work for their stay, there will be two types of complaints, those who say they are taking jobs from decent people, and the family of the prisoners who will feel they are being exploited.

I don't think I can go to an execution and watch someone die. The only way I would even consider it is if it is something that I know and cared about a lot...but right now I don't know anyone in jail.

I don't know if anyone I know has been in jail for any reason...I know that my boyfriend's sister's boyfriend might be going to jail but we don't know what is happening with that and I don't think it was for a serious crime.

I know a few people who have been thrown in over night for drinking and driving or something like that.

I am very opposed to capital punishment. I understand why people are pro it; but in my view it's not justice but revenge and reduces us to the same level of the criminal. I don't have a problem with locking them up and throwing away the key though! No, I wouldn't attend an execution. But I have seen people die and have also watched a hanging on Youtube of a 16 year old girl in Iran who was guilty of having an affair with an older man. I forced myself to watch it to test my response. I was disgusted and could never watch another one either on screen or in person.

I don't believe in Capital Punishment...what makes our killing someone more justified than theirs. However, on the other hand, our tax dollars are paying for someone to sit and jail for life; It would be nice to teach them, educate them, and better themselves so they can live a more productive person in society...but then again, if there is no intentions of letting them free after that, what good is there to spend the money on this, if they aren't going anywhere. There is no perfect answer...but I don't think killing them all off, is a better way.

No one wants to die alone - thats so true. I think if the person has a chance for parole or ever being released the educAtion and bettering themselves for society would be a good option.

As a side note...if I new someone that was being executed, and they wanted me there, I would be there as a friend....no one wants to die alone.

The little problem that I have with executions let alone attending one is that innocent people have been executed. When there were executions in the UK this happened. Since capital punishment was abolished in the UK there have been instances of people convicted of murder who were subsequently proven to be innocent. Apart from that an execution is a barbarous act. Quite simply murder by the state. It is something that I find abhorrent and have no wish whatsoever to be associated with in any shape or form.

Thats something that would really suck. I wonder how the people who performed the executions both when they find out it was an innocent person (does that make them a murderer then) and after the execution.

I think we need to do executions for ppl that have committed capitol crimes...murder, serial killers, ect. Why keep them alive if they are just going to mooch off the government for years and years and years. Prime example: Charles Manson. He's been in prison since 1969, that's 40 years, he will never get out and yet he lives on, sucking up food, clothes, medical treatment, and space all the while he's fathered dozens of kids through congiecal(sp?) visits with the women of his following. He should have been executed years ago. As for watching an execution, I guess it would depend on the type. I don't think I could sit through a beheading (the sight of blood makes me squeemish) but lethal injection I probably could. Ideally, I think they need to go back to public hangings in the courthouse square where ppl can see what happens when you break major laws. I think many ppl would think twice before following the same path. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

Seriosuly i honestly dont get how women can go and sleep with a murderer whos been convicted of the crime. Just boggles my mind! I can see your point about needing capitol punishment for the reasons you just pointed out. I'm still not sure where i really stand on that issue - probably never will be but i do find it neat to see what others think. I totally dont think i could sit through a beheading too gross!

i dont know if i would go to an execution, but i can tell how depressed i would be afterward. i mean seeing someone die in front of you isnt really a pleasant sight to be honest(except for ppl who are used to it*rolls eyes*). even when i watch shows on the tv about executions i feel sick afterward. so all in all no, i would not go to an execution... ever!
