can your computer be detected if you connected to a wireless network without the server knowing that you're connected with them? if you can be detected, do you guys know any ways in which you can't be detected?are there any softwares that could do that??

Yes, you can be detected. The wireless access point needs to know where to route the packets back to, otherwise you'll never receive any data back from your requests. As for your location, the signal strength gives an indication of roughly where you are in terms of radius. Of course, obstacles change the distance value. However, through triangulation and a moving scanner, the location of your computer can be narrowed down with ease by listening for your transmissions and establishing the strength level from the scanner...
