What's the difference between designer clothes and normal clothes?

With the main exception of the price, I find that designer clothes are really nothing amazing except that they are really expensive and have their logo splashed all over it. I really think it's not worth it as a teen myself to buy a shirt at Abercrombie for $75 and instead go Wal-mart for example, and get a shirt there for $5. Basically they are made in the same place so it has nothing to do with price, but with marketing.
They basically use the same materials but it's the amount of money they spend on marketing and commercials that make it so expensive. Finally, they also add their logo which makes you their advertisement, which helps their income roll in even more!
Basically, designer clothes is an idea they want us to think because of all the commercials and people accepting it as trendy, and that we think we have to pay a high price for something of so little value, it's amazing how they can get away with these profit margins.
I must admit I buy some expensive clothes, but I feel they are not worth it sometimes. Do you buy designer clothes and how much money does it cost for you to buy 1 item?

I do buy designer cloths whenever there is a special occassion. It is the "in" thing now a days in our place. We have sarees and salwar-kameez that have rich emberoidery or have some kind of chamki work done on it and as you said they cost a fortune if one gets them from a branded store.
I would suggest people to think creative and design their own dress - this way you will be proud to wear your creation and will also save a lot on the cost price :)

I got designer clothes from secondhand stores.I think it's about the materials and marketing.as long as you buy a designer dress that will last for a long, long, long time,I see nothing wrong with it.I see nothing wrong with spending more money on items that will last a long, long time.

I think that they all last for the same amount of time no matter what makes they are and that you are only paying to wear the designer name tag. There is no way i would pay more than i need to just to say these are disigner clothes as i need money for other things in life like bills.Happy Mylotting.

I really don't buy much in the way of name brand clothes, as i hate spending tons of money on just one item, when i could buy three or four elsewear. though occasionally i will hit a really good clearance sale somewhere, then i go for it. I do find that with some brands and some clothing items, they can tend to be made of higher quality materials, better stitching etc, but really not enough to make much of a difference to me. The biggesst thing i like about name brand clothes is the fit. Often times these companies do take a little more time with the shaping of clothing items. Very rarely can i find pants that fit me right in all the right places if i go to a discount store, which when it comes to jeans and khakis for work and what not, isn't a huge problem, as i am not going for sexy and figure flattering there, but when i am looking for dressier pants, like the perfect pair of black dress pants to wear on date night or something, i find i am usually more satisfied with a more expensive brand, as they hug my curves in all the right places and aren't too tight in others.
And shoes...i always go more upper scale on shoes. Cheaper shoes never seem to last as long, or seem to support my feet and stay comfortable. I am not talking spending hundreds of dollars on shoes, but for a good pair of work shoes i would rather go to a specialized sho store and spend 60-80 dollars on a pair, than buy a pair for 20 bucks at walmart, my feel always appreciate it!
