I pray to god for giving me a life which is much better when compared to others. I also pray to god to give a better life and better education, success to my family member. I do not fear Judgement day or Punishment, because I know I have not harmed anybody knowingly. Regarding hell and karma, I think more about this life than about reincarnation.

I have also seen the poor who pray to god more than anybody else. I think they are praying so that they might have a better life and have a little more comforts than what they are having at present.

hi ramesh does this mean they are seeking forgiveness from god for the state of their current life which was due to some sin and wanting a better one in the next

Those who pray pray for one, two or all of the reasons that you have mentioned. However, I would never pray to God, even if somebody would be able to convince me that God exists. For the simple reason, that I cannot even see the creature called God. As fas as loving God is concerned, how can you love something that you have never seen?

For the simple reason that I respect the life of other people as I respect my own life. One who respects and loves oneself will not find himself capable of killing, stealing etc.. Those who kill and steal are unhappy, depressed people. And the 'normal' people say that God will send these desperate guys to hell.

I pray to God for strength. I believe that for Karma to take its own course, we don’t have to wait for judgment day…we get our rewards and punishments in this life here itself. And then, if there is reincarnation in which I believe, then I don’t really know what my next life will be. So whatever happens, I will be in the know in this life and so I need all the strength that is required to stay on the straight path and not give in to temptation.

Prayer is communication with God. God can hear our prayers when we have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Our first prayer that God will hear is the prayer of repentance and acceptance of Jesus Christ in our heart. After we have Christ in our heart, we are assured of heaven and we don't need to fear hell anymore. But as a believer of Jesus Christ, you now follow Him because you want to please Him. Love is now the motive for everything we do like prayer!

that's a tricky one - i can see how it could be hard to distinguish between say doing something out of compassion and doing something basically in order to help yourself in the afterlife or later on. i'm agnostic and don't really think much about karma and the like but even so i find it hard to tell sometimes how altruistic something i've done really is. i imagine the same, or similar, is true of prayer.

Hi there mylotter.. I personally pray to God to make my life fullfill of blessings. Not just for fear of judgement or punishment, but for help me out and stay in God rules. I pray to God for my goodness and seek improvement. Pray for forgiveness and protection cause i am just a human who always make the mistakes. Then submit to God for happiness in the world and the end of the day, For all of us. Especially for my family.. Happy mylotting..

hello sanjana! as for me, i pray to my God to communicate with Him... whenever i am praying, i feel that its the time for me to talk to Him and talk my feelings to Him... its my chance to thank Him for giving my life and for continuous guiding me and helping me and my family... on this time i ask Him whenever i need something..i ask Him to grant my prayers... and of course it is my chance to ask for forgiveness in all my sins and mistakes that i have done in my life... every time i am praying, i feel like i am really relieved and i gain another strength to continue my life and it even inspires me a lot and also it strengthen my faith more...

Hello Sanjana_aslam!!! No I don't really pray the God at all. I can't waste my precious life on being certain about the thing that is very very much uncertain. For the law of karma, why not always achieve good karma in life and set away the bad karmas. Then why do we have to be afraid of. I don't believe in the concept of heaven and hell. What is the balancing scale that measures right and wrong, when the things like right and wrong doesn't even exist. And also the things like "how much" does not exist. Right and wrong are the difference that are made by our senses and again the concept of right and wrong is always relative. The law of karma is simplier. It doesn't understand what is good or what is bad. But just excellent on returning the things as they are. happy mylotting...

I feel that everyone looks at their own faith differently. It's our own relationship with whatever God we have. I pray but I'm thankful. I say thank you for my family and the loved ones around me. I pray for strength through difficult times and not for quick answers, but for the right choices. I don't look at it as judgement day or out of fear. I see it as any relationship that you would have. It needs communication and understanding to keep that relationship strong.

I'd pray because I am afraid of what is to come in the afterlife. Will I see loved ones who have already passed. Or will I make a wrong turn and not be able to see them.
