http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/7/31/760087/-Birthers-are-mostly-Republican-and-Southern What? theyre mostly republican and southern? wait... thats not suprising at all... But it does bring up the question, is this a race thing? I think statistically we can assume that most of these birthers being southern and republican are white...

"But it does bring up the question, is this a race thing?" That is some of the most extrapolated moronic logic I have ever seen used on this board. Is this a race thing? your kidding right? Dude, seriously, this is as bad as any birther post.

Even the worst birthers use better sources than DailyKOS... On a side note someone may want to point out to him that the majority of those who voted for Obama were in the US and as such, the majority of his supporters were also white. I guess voting for Obama was a race thing.

what i was wondering about was why the more right wing posters on here are fond of calling others racist but are very defensive about it when it comes to either themselves or america.

I don't think it's a matter of right or left wing. I live in a democratic left-wing county and there are plenty of racists here. Personally, I think people should just quit with the racial nonsense and spend the energy making sure government is working the way it is suppose to. All of this fighting and name-calling among one another just keeps us from doing what we should be doing-pulling together as a nation.

Probably because they get banned and their posts deleted.

i think that's a good comment but i am still curious - it's maybe more a mylot thing than anything else but i've seen these users call others racist a lot but very little of this from the more liberal end.

I was wondering if this post to you all day to write also? So I assuming that you are say that Republicans and Southerns are racist. Of course it is going to be Republican, Democrats including you have your head so far you Obama's buttock that you can see what Obama had for breakfast. Since Republican are mostly Southerner then it only stand to reason that most everyone demanding that Obama present his birth certificate would be.

Let's just step back and take a closer look at this poll, forgetting about the blog on which it was posted for a moment if we can. The question was pretty straight-forward: "Do you believe that Barack Obama was born in the United States of America or not?" Yes 77 No 11 Not sure 12 The answers are pretty clear as well with over three-quarters of those polled saying "Yes", they believe the President was born in the USA. "So 11 percent of Americans are Obama-hating conspiracy theorists. How do they break down?" The above are the words of the DailyKos writer. To say "11 percent of Americans are Obama-hating conspiracy theorists" is a definite stretch. Do SOME of those 11% fit that description? Sure, but that doesn't mean they all do. Whatever, let's look at the party and geographical breakdown: Yes No Not sure Dem 93 4 3 Rep 42 28 30 Ind 83 8 9 Northeast 93 4 3 South 47 23 30 Midwest 90 6 4 West 87 7 6 OK, so more people from the south than anywhere else said "No" but the majority said either "Yes" or "Not Sure". I don't think it's any surprise that more Republicans than Democrats or Independents answered "No" and it has nothing to do with race. There are more Republicans in the south than anywhere else right now so it stands to reason there would be more from that area to answer "No". Does that mean all Republicans from the south are racists? Of course not! Race is such a sensitive subject, especially these days, so I hesitate to even comment on it at all. However, I'm going to take my chances and simply phrase it as two questions - Does anyone think ALL or even most of the "birthers" are racists? I know I certainly don't. I may disagree with them but I think many of them really think there are legitimate questions and it's not about race for them. Next, does anyone here deny that there are SOME birthers for whom race is an issue, in some cases THE issue? I'm not saying that about anyone here because I know most of you here on myLot who are conservatives are NOT racists. Annie

Nice breakdown there Annie. I won't disagree with anything you've said and I considered doing the same thing however, I won't do it for a garbage poll run by the worst hate blog on the internet.

Taskr, I was giving them a bit of a benefit of the doubt since the poll was supposedly conducted by an outside source and because the question WAS straight-forward and to the point. I also think we could give new members the benefit of the doubt as well. I was once guilty of sincerely not knowing the difference between a liberal hate blog and a conservative hate blog when I first joined here. Now I'm often very frustrated when searching for information on different topics because it's impossible to find anything but blogs. Annie

Oh geesh, I can't believe I actually went and looked at The Daily Kooks web site! I think it was actually two Democrats who started this whole thing. I know that one of them was a Hillary supporter. And it's been like a snowball rolling downhill ever since.

How about finding an non-biased poll that didn't come from a liberal blog?

if you look closely, the poll was conducted by research 2000, a non partisan polling group.

Oh, well if a BLOG says it then it must be true! Give me a break man. This is the same site that made up stories about Sarah Palin's child being her grandchild and her son joining the military to avoid prison. They have less credibility than the homeless guy downtown screaming "God is a golf club!"

The company may be non-partisan, but the questions aren't. That makes a big difference. I don't see why you don't get that.

I dont think you get it! a slanted question is something like "dont you think its moronic to question the president's American birth?" thats a bad question. That question is slanted, What this asks is do you believe Barak Obama was born in the united states of america or not? Thats a pretty clear cut question in my eyes.

Just because its on a blog doesnt mean its false either! Keep in mind, this ISNT a homeless guy downtown, these liberal bloggers went out and hired this completely non-partisan, respectable polling company, and got these results. I for one am willing to believe them. Heck, if they didnt like the results, do you really think they would have posted them?

Where were you when the left was claiming that McCain wasn't a citizen and there were "birthers" on the left declaring him an illegal candidate? Of course, there was no poll conducted to find out which demographics these people belonged to, but it's probably true they were all Democrats. And this proves what? By the way, if you want conspiracy theories on birth certificates, the left started it. The Obama one is just a copycat. See these links: http://americanpowerblog.blogspot.com/2008/05/mccain-birth-eligibility-remains.html http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/05/01/AR2008050103224.html http://www.dailypaul.com/node/100575#100575 The Daily Kos would find ways to point fingers at Southern Republicans regardless of the issue. It's part of their elitism to believe that all people who are not them are slightly moronic and backward. During the campaign, the Daily Kos just made fun of McCain for being old. Gotta be young, hip, and blissfully left of center if you want to be part of the in-crowd.
