Remember back in the day when you would go to the movie theater, and once the lights went down and the film started rolling, you were greeted with a dancing bucket of popcorn and a message to remind you about the snack bar, then a quick screen shot reminding you of proper theater ettiquette(shhh! keep it down during the movie, turn ooff your cell phone etc..) Then boom, right into the preveiws?
I miss those days. Now we are subjected to a barage of advertisements, clothing brands, sodas, cars and whatever else they decide to throw on the screen. I really hate this. I have already paid an exorbanent price to get into the movie, during the movie itself i am going to be subjected to "product placement" ads from big sponsors....do i really need to have even more ads played prior to getting to watch the feature presentation? I am not knocking the snack bar ad....they are usually cute and not all up in your face....and i definately love seeing the previws for other movies...but do i have to sit there and watch a bunch of dancing lizards tell me to go out and buy sobe water after the movie? Or see a horrendously appauling Monty Python and the Holy Grail knock off (the sacrilage!..that is what prompted this...i just hate that commercial) that is trying to sell us gatorade or something?
Does anyone else think this is just going a bit overboard with the advertising?

I hate watching the commercials that there are before the previews. A couple, I could understand, but when it takes ten minutes to get to the previews is a big of an extreme. What makes it more irksome is when you're waiting to do a trailer check, and you have to wade through the commercials first.

OOOhh..i see. I didn't think anyone actually did that stuff, everything i have ever seen aboutit just seems like a scam. What do they do, have you record what trailers are playing for whatever movies yo go see type of thing?

the snacks from the concession stand can be quite costly. Makes it hard to afford to go. I rmember when i was younger for like 20 bucks my paresnt could take our whole family of four to the movies, and get sodas for all and a big popcorn to share...

Yep, I would definitely have to agree with you. I hate commercials of any sort be it at the movies, on TV or on radio. I do remember the "good ole days" when you went directly to the snack bar, got your popcorn and goodies and then the "ettiquette" (without the cell phone reminder) thingy and then the previews and the movie. Why do things always have to change for the worse? It used to be so pleasant to go to the movies, so relaxing and a nice escape from the outside world and ones personal problems. Alas it is not so relaxing any more with all these stupid commercials and loud music before the show. I almost prefer to rent a movie and watch it at home, but those have commercials on them too now. Can't win, I guess.

but at least when you rent a move and watch it at home, you can fast-forward through the commercials, and even the preveiws if they aren't for anything good!

I don't really see the point in going to the theater anymore. Why go, when for the price that I would spend on a trip to see a movie once, I could rent it, decide if I like it, then buy it if it is worth it, and still have some money left over to buy a good book to read after I watch the movie as many times as I want.
The last time I did go though, there was about 5 minutes of commercials and everyone just started yelling and booing until they went off.

Yeah, i'm with you, unless it is a movie i am REALLLY anxious to see, i just wait til it comes out to rent (God bless redbox movie rental kiosks!) But luckily, when a movie comes out that i HAVE to see right away (most recently harry potter..woohoo!!) the theater in my town is one of the few that still has reasonable rates..$5 adult admissions...so at least i am not breaking the bank to go.
