I am still pretty shaken and the entire thing keeps replaying through my mind again and again. Please oblidge me while I spill and try to get some ease.
I was siiting at the computer some time after nine O'Clock this morning trying to edit my brother's resume. He (my brother) had just washed some dishes and went outside to assist my sister and mother with removing the trash as they were raking the yard. My 7yr old nephew was outside with them.
I had my a hand over my left eye and as I tried to figure out how to edit a scanned document. I heard someone ssay something like "Dont move" or "Dont make a sound". God... I turned my head only to see a guy right there crotching on the floor not far from me (just a single settees length away). I was staring right at a gun and a masked young man.
I couldnt believe it. It took me just a few seconds to figure it out. Initially I thought it was my brother pulling a prank but no... It was the same guy who has been holding up and robbing people in their homes for a little while now. Reality hit me with a great force but some how (onlt God knows how) I was able to stay calm through it all.
He wanted money. Thats all he has been demanding so far from allhis robberies. I spoke to him told him there was no money in the house (which was true save a little change). I opened my handbag to prove this to him. Of course he wouldnt believe so I showed him two more hand bags and told him to search them himself. All this time I was careful to keep him in view of the window just so my brother could look up and see something was wrong.
What nearly went wrong was that my nephew came inside to get something his uncle sent him for. The gunman was demanding that I "call the man" referring to my brother. He wanted me to do so from anther room but I just had to keep him in the living room. I couldnt risk having my brother come inside. I told my nephew to tell his uncle to come here quickly. That sort of rosed his suspicion. Why would I want him quickly when he just went outside.
Good thing my nephew was out of the house again. Bad thing when I looked up (after positioning myself so the gunman would be in full view formy brother to see) my nephew was back inside heading towards me to ask for what his uncle sent him for in the first place. I ordered him back outside saying go to your uncle now. By this time my brother looked upand saw the guy inside with the gun.
The guy upon realising he was seen ordered my brother not try anything funny as he had his sister. Well there was a door between us but I wasnt going to play hero. My sister based on my brothers facial and body reaction was able to sense that something was wrong and sillently beckoned my nephew to her. My brother swiftly went for two stones and I made a dash outside with a cell phone which I threw to my mother. My sister called for her to head to the road which they both did with my nephew and they alerted the police.
That left my brother myself and the gunman. The gunman had fled back through the back room door and back the way he had entered the property. Through the back. That is how he has entered all the properties so far. All the houses hit (we were the 4th as far as I can tell) are somehow connected geoghhraphically by our backlands.
The entire community was on the alert for this guy plus from his last house breakin he was caught on camera. The police had taken in costody a guy we were suspicious of but here was this guy in my own house. Masked and all pointing a gun at me.
I'll end by saying the police were absolutely fabulous in their response. Some community men jioned forces with the police and they combed the area fo the guy. An alert was made to the nieghbouring community but the police got there too in no time.
Shots were heard whilethe police were here taking statements. The police I speaking to at the time called back later to say the shots we heard was from a policeman who lived in the other community. The same gunman had gone knocking on the policeman's door and telling him not to move. The policeman was able to get his gun and fire shoots at him but he escaped. The search party also came upon him (the gunman) in the bushes and he fired in the air.
They located the house where this guy and his croonies had been hiding out. Finally something concrete. Pity no arrest was made but we know more about this mystry guy who has been plagueing the community.
I'll say this much about the guy... He seems somewhat mild mannered and no very aggresive by nature. He is not quick to use the gun at all. He becomes maybe flustered and a aggression shows when he is not getting what he wants.
Why are young men so taken to this way of life?
I hope no one here has had to suffer a similar ordeal. Now I am scared to have every1sleeping at the same time. Guess I'll just mylot untilmy eyes just cant hold out any longer. Its just after two in the morning so there's a little way to go before daylight.
But then the robbery attempt did take place in the morning.
Thanks for listening.

Hi, sorry to hear that but thanks goodness you and your family were not hurt.
These things happen a lot lately. 2 years ago someone broke into our neighbors house who were not there are that moment. I was in my bedroom and suddenly heard someone running up the stairs and heard the heavy footsteps that are not usual to hear from any of my family so I went to see what's happening. Dad told me the police came to run up on the roof as the burglar enter the neighbors property from the roofs so they were chasing him like that. Here we have flat roofs and only divided by some 5 courses wall so it's easy to jump from one roof to another.
These burglars study the persons they are targeting to check their normal pattern and either break in when they are sure you will not return or the insane ones get in when there are people inside. I always make sure that I have all doors and windows closed at night and when I'm not there. Now I live in a second floor apartment but I still close the front balcony doors since one time I saw a person on a cherry picker doing some work on electricity cables nearby and suddenly came to mind that people sometimes disguise themselves as workers to access houses in daylight and not raise suspicion. This thing has frequently occurred as well, so better be safe.
Everyone should make sure that they are not at risk such burglars will always be there watching and waiting for their next prey. Hope you'll recover from your shock.

Hi Howard . Long time no see...
Thanks for the support. Everyone is upbeat about nabbing this guy soon as we have now found out more about him other than just his mannerism and how he dresses while carrying out his act.
I think he might be a bit desparate now as his last three attempts were foiled by those he attempted to rob.

my you are so brave, and so calm.it must have been horribly
frightening for you.please get an alarm system put into your home so it will frighten off any intruder. I do hope the police
soon find this horrid man before he hurts someone. I do
admire how cool and collected you were in this frightening situation. I doubt I would have been able to be that calm. good for you. good luck God bless

Hatley.... Hi... This is one mylotter I have not seen around here for some time. Welcome back and thanks a mil for the support.
The police hate the fact that he has eluded them for so long and we all thought a guy they picked up a week ago was the perpetrator. His days are numbered and we cant wait for him to be caught.
We have to think about securing the house a bit more no doubt.

I am so glad you and your family are safe. That was a terrible ordeal to have to go through. I cannot believe that the police did not catch the guy and arrest him. When he is locked up in jail, then you can have peace and will be able to sleep without worrying. I am really sorry you had to experience this trauma. I guess with the economy nowadays, people are really desperate for money. Such a shame. I hope you can eventually put this behind you and feel safe in your home once again. Take care.

God Bless you and your family.

Thank you Cynthiann.
The entire community waits with abated breath for the day when this guy is captured. The police have been great. They keep callin even now to see if we are ok.
They are determined to rid the community of these guys as they say they know this community to be a peaceful one and cannot allow those criminals to come in and spoil it. The community people stand ready to assist them.
Thanks again for your kind wishes and your prayers.

tjades,
Thank goodness, no one was hurt in this outrageous broad daylight robbery.
Next time, do not say you do not have money. Those spare change or whatever, just volunteer it willingly and let them be done with it. You see, these people are after money and desperate. Next time have a few notes in the wallets and handbags. Once they have it, they will leave you much sooner.
I had an experience once where an overseas friend of mine whilst driving in his car and was robbed on the highway. I've always asked him to have some money in his wallet and this time as usual he did not. The robber just gave him a thrashing and a bad one too which left him with 2 broken ribs and a black eye. The reason the robber gave was you can afford a Benz but no cash in the wallet. Fortunately, I had some amount with me and I just managed to convince him to stop and scram before the cops came.
I think from then on, this friend of mine never forgot to have some cash in him. It is just logical and safety precaution.
Take care and do have a nice weekend.

Thats an advice worth taking note of skysuccess. Thanks for that.
I could not recall any money being in the house except my sister having some I might not have known about. I definately was not going to call her inide to ask her if she had any and if I had asked outloud the guy would have been even more jittery as he might have felt they were going to pick up something was not right in the house.
I had to just play it the best way I could. I gave him the only small note I found in my handbag. We later found he had left it on the dining table and had taken my sister's cell phone and it seems my charger as well. When allis said and done i thank God the gunman was not a very voilent person.
My sister did have a thousand dollar note in her purse but I had no idea. He too rifled through her stuff but never checked her purse. It was one of the policemen who checked and announced it was still there.
