Did you ever visit your penpals or online friends from other countries?

Many years ago when I was a teenager I had a penpal from Germany, and one day he visited me in Denmark. I wasn't very good at English at that time and I didn't speak German at all, so it was a bit difficult for us to communicate, but we used dictionaries and sign language and we managed to understand eachother.
Many years later another German penpal visited me, and we drove around in my country and visited some of the famous sights. We got along really well and I enjoyed our time together.
I have also met some of my penpals in their countries. 9 years ago I met a penpal from Estonia, and he showed me his city, took me out to dinner etc. It was a very nice experience.
I met another penpal from Italy, and that was also a very postive experience. Her family was really nice to me, they showed me their country and did a lot for me. I enjoyed my time in Italy very much.
Meeting friends from other countries is a great way to travel, and I hope to meet other penpals/online friends in the future.
Have you met penpals or online friends when you visited their country? Or have penpals or online friends visited you in your country? How did the meeting turn out? Would you like do it again?

Whoa~
I think that's fun~
Visiting friends or to visit online friends is totally fun.
My friends were all around the globe.
But mostly they're in Asian countries and on European parts.
If I have time and extra money I would definitely loved to visit those countries.
They're all inviting me there but it is totally expensive to go on a trip right now.
Also now that I don't have a job.
^0^
But here in my country I have a lot of online all over the place.
Some came from the farthest island but we still decides to meet.
I thought it will give me a hard time make a little chat with them.
Since we're like just talking online.
But in the end it is a total blast
And specially a great time~
Happy mylotting.
God Bless

I also thought that it might be hard to talk to penpals or online friends since we had only tried writing together, but it wasn't a problem, and after a while we just talked and talked It was a very nice experience and I love meeting people from other countries. I am very grateful that I have had the chance to meet some of my penpals.

I met some friends when I was 18 years old when I was working in Finland. One was a German man. He became my pen pal and we wrote letters to each other. He came over to my home country a few times. I was able to show him around London. We took a lovely day trip out to Windsor. The other one was an Australian lady. We wrote letters to each other and exchanged photos. I popped in to see her when I was 20 years old on my trip around the world. She took me around in her van to explore her local area. I was in my mid twenties and was confused at a bus station in Slovakia. I was against a language barrier and I was getting nowhere quickly. I asked if anyone spoke English. Luckily a Polish boy did. He helped me get on the right bus. I saw him again at a lake in Poland so we exchanged addresses. He came to visit me and I showed him around London. He became an English Language teacher. I love to meet people from different countries and I like to make new friends.

Wow your experiences sound wonderful! You are very lucky!
I have a few friends from other countries, and I would have no problems meeting up with them at some point in time! I think it is nice to be given a personal tour of a country by someone who lives there:)
Plus you can pick up the language quicker too:)
I have had some friends visit me whilst they were site seeing here and infact one is coming over to do some work in September.
It's incredible to think that you can get on so well with someone who you have never met face to face:)
Keep travelling:):)

Hi,
Your experiances sound wounderful. I met one of my online friend once. He is from Italy and he is vey passionalte about body building. And we met in a soicla network site because of this common interest. We spent a beautiful evening together. He spoke broken english but it was ok.
He often travels to India and I would love to meet him again. And if I make it to Italy I will surely meet him.
Hope we all have such wonderful experiances more and more.
Cheers,
Tutul

Well I have lot of online friends and some offline friends too, but no penpals so I guess this somthing I might consider one day, but I tend to be very careful when it comes to meeting people online or corresponding with people via email or even snail mail, becuse I've heard a lot of unpleasant things and thats partly why I dont have a penpal though its very tempting.

It is true that you have to be careful when you meet people you don't know. I have had one bad experience myself, but the other meetings have been great, and I am grateful that I have met so many nice people. The bad experience that I had was a meeting with a person from my own country, and when I look at that experience now, I know that I should have trusted my intuiton in that situation, and I have learned from the experience. I am happy that the other meetings have been much better, and I don't want to miss out on a lot of good experiences because of one bad experience.

Oh!! How I miss those days!!!
Those days where snail mail was the preferred link with your friends, I had penpals in Nepal, South Africa, bhutan and throughout India.
We used to exchange Stamps, Notes, Photos and believe it or not, the Postman who delivered their letters became my best friend too!!!
Though gradually, technology advances, work pressure made me and them reduce contact and ultimately lose contact with almost all of them.
One particular Penpal from Kolkatta still keeps in touch with me. I have visited him in Kolkata and he has visited me in Bangalore.
We both still keep in touch with each other.
thanks for bringing back those sweet memories.

i do have some penpals from other countries, but i do not have any experience meeting up them. i think probably is due to the travelling cost that prohibit me doing so.

Oh you have done alot of traveling you your years. I would of loved to even half of that.
Yes I have met an online friend from another country here in the US. My friend came from Australia to visit out country. We were apart of a chat room and she went around the US to visit different friends that we talked with for years online. That was the first time I knew she was here in US. She came again later on to visit with another friend and then she came and stayed with me for several months before she had to go back to her country. We both learned alot from each other, and my wish of wanting to go to that country only became stronger because of my good friend. Maybe someday I will be able to fulfill that wish.
