How Human/Animals BRAIN stores our memory and how much size?

Hi,I am very curious to know about where excatly in the brain the old memory is stored and how much size it can store and i guess till today nobody is able to answer this excatly. When we sit and think we remember all our memories right from school days in a fraction of seconds time and how is it possible?...Is there some magic god has given to all and but in some cases where people who are not in a good health condition for them its very difficult to re-collect what they did yesterday?.. Can anybody throw some light on this how excatly brain works..
