This probably has something to do with early training. Your mother put you to bed, said "It's time to go to sleep now", and turned the lights off.

Lights can be on or off, and it doesn't matter to me. Maybe it's just a case of needing more sleep than I get most of the time, but I usually fall asleep with the TV on, and I set the timer so it will turn itself off. I know, for some people, that alone is too much light.

maybe when u r tired and ready to sleep, the lights hurt your eyes when on. when u turn off the lights, u eyes r more relaxed.

I need to sleep with complete darkness. When my granddaughter sleeps with me she needs a nightlight and I end up not getting a good night sleep at all.

It is much easier for me to sleep with the lights off than with them on. Why, I don't think I know an actual scientific rationale for this, but my guess is that your mind has one less thing to be stimulated over when the lights aren't on. In college I didn't sleep nearly as well as I do now because my room mates kept different schedules than I did.

Doesn't matter to me light on or off I can sleep. The only thing I need to sleep is a sense of security and a small bit of comfort. I am a napper, I love to take a nap. And for my work it is necessary that I am able to take a nap in all sorts of situations.
