Imagine your horror of being told by a friend that your child's picture is posted online as being available for adoption. This is exactly what happened to a young Massachusetts mother, who had posted pictures in her family blog. Please read the article at: http://www.thebostonchannel.com/news/20247430/detail.html
Pictures can be pirated from anywhere you post them. Even pictures with copywrite information can be pirated, since it's so easy to crop that information out before using the picture for criminal purposes. Anyone criminal to do something like this would certainly not be bothered by copywrite laws.
Just wanted to pass this on, it could happen to any of us.

That is just crazy how could some one do that to another person I really just don't think it's right. I have two little girls of my own and I have tones of pic of them on my myspace page I would be up set to if I found out that some was doing that to my child. I think that women did the right thing no one should have to go through that at all.

Normal, decent people would never think of doing something like this. Who isn't proud and want to share family pictures? Scam artists continuously think of new ways to bilk honest people out of hard-earned money. In this case, not only does it hurt the people who, for honest and loving reasons, attempt to adopt a child that is really not available for adoption - but it also hurts the children who are available for adoption. If prospective parents become sceptical of agencies who may post information about their services online, it reduces the chances of these children finding loving homes.

I heard about a family whose vacation picture was printed up the size of a billboard one time. I do not have family pictures online, at least very few. Neither my daughter or daughter in law are comfortable with it, so I do not do it with the grandkids.

I do remember reading about the billboard incident...I think it was in another country. I post very few of our family pictures either, and none of young children. Makes one wonder how many of our own pictures are posted elsewhere that we will never know about.

I am also one of those people who have a pics of my relatives or sister and brother in some social networking site and thankful that have not encountered problem that someone used the picture for any purposes.
If the person done things about mother's pic its privacy that they don't respect.
It is hard to trace who done this and for us to be safe is that we will not make our pics visible to public.
There are site that you can upload your pic and you have the option that no one can copy or save your images to be safe from saving and copying. Piczo is one of this site that you can create blog, like any other networking site that you can protect your pic and you have to choose the option that can not be copied or save by oters your pic.

Yeah, you have to checked the site, and build your own page or site to store your pictures online but no one can copy or save it without your permission. I already forget how to do it but sure if you checked it and get familiarize of its tools you can do it that no one can save your pic. They can view it but they can not get it.
Its nice that site like piczo is also concerned of ones privacy in the pictures because they have the feature like this.

That is why I never post my picture on the net. Even at social networking sites. Computer geeks can do so much on them and it could be a freaky result. So far the pictures that I have posted are only of my pets. I think no harm can be done on them.
Thanks for sharing this post. I will tell my sister about it cause she is a member of a social networking site and I know she posts a lot of pictures on her site, including her son's picture.

I pretty much stick to my pet pictures, or pictures of various flowers in my garden too. I also try to not post pictures with identifying items in the background that would tell some one where I was. Thanks for sharing, and I hope your sister listens to you.

The way today's world is, you are much better off opting on the side of caution, especially when it comes to pictures of your family or yourself. Websites that have areas for posting pictures, like myLot, have it so that we can learn more about the friends we talk with here. Pictures can be posts of things that you like, or that are important to you...that don't show any people at all. I mostly post my pet's pictures and certainly that tells some one that I like animals. Personally, I like it when people post pictures of the area they live in. It gives me a chance to see a little piece of the world that I wouldn't othewise see.

It is quite scary to post personal pictures online. It can be easily copied and pasted in any where and for any reason. The cyberspace has a lot of rubbish floating around so we should if possible refrain from posting personal picture online. I was shocked the other day when someone copied my avatar in mylot and requested me for friends. That is the reason I changed my avatar to a different picture and no longer uses my picture as my avatar.

That certainly would have offended me too. Most people put a lot of thought into their avatar pictures, to have something unique. If some one were to ask, it would be a different story. To not ask is rude and probably reflects the nature of that individual.

I believe that with the advent of all this technology right now, a lot of things are possible. As you have said, we should be careful considering that pictures can easily be edited. Great of you to have posted this information so that many people will be warned and will be careful with what they do online.

Technology does seem to move faster than the security measures can be created, doesn't it? All crime is bad, but used against children is the worst of the worst. It's sad when something so inncoent as pictures can be used so badly. I love looking at pictures that people have posted, not seeing some of them is going to make me nervous. Thanks for your kind response!

Oh thanks. It is funny that i posted our old family photo for about two days ago here in mylot. I used it to show my baby picture. I hope that won't happen to me.

I hope not too! I've been so tempted to post family pictures myself, since I love my family so much. Then I thought about the risks, and wondered that if I just posted 'bad' pictures, maybe no one would think of a way to use them. That idea didn't last long though...I would be so embarassed if my picture was used in some one's email joke...lol.

What the? that's really really disturbing..those kind of scum really need to get a life and probably stop doing this stuff. lucky for me that the pictures of my family in friendster are put into the private folder. the only picture that is in public is me.

People post pictures of their children with pride and the pleasure of sharing with others. It's horrible when criminals takes advantage of something so innocent. I've often wondered if some of the 'work at home' scams are paying people to harvest these types of pictures that are then used for illegal purposes. Thanks for your response!

That is ridiculous!! I've got pics of my kids on myspace but I have it set up so that only those who are added as friends can get to my photo albums. It's amazing the things that people will do. A shame really that we have to be so suspicious of everyone around us. Thanks for the warning though.

Crime and criminality has so many faces, features and nature that we can never know just what to expect. Scams are so in abundance you can take your pick.
I would have been mortified to find my baby put up for adoption and online at that. i would have liked for more than just an email being erased. The same manner in which hackers are traced should have been employed to capture the person or persons behind this troubling scam.
Yahoo or the mother, in my opinion should have alerted the police so a trace could be done. Afterall email accounts are more than easy to come by. By terminating an account only the perpitrator/s are left ton continue their terrible deeds.

It would certainly help if more were done to catch and prosecute criminals who do things like this. Internet security should be taken seriously and on a global basis. Wouldn't it be nice if all countries could set aside political differences and work together to make that happen?

That's scary, I passed the link onto some of my friends, they're always posting pictures of their families and kids on their blogs. I'd be beyond angry if someone did that to me, its getting scarier and scarier everyday. I think we all need to be more careful about what we do on the internet.

Internet can somehow be dangerous nowadays and we do have the internet murderers and also bad guys. It is best that we do not expose too much of ourselves and family online and not to expose the personal details and identity too. Since those information might lure people who are having bad intentions to use it for framing you or to use it for bad purposes.

what a horrible thing to do... some people will do everything just to get money from others. i have pictures of my kids too posted on my blog... i dont know what i will feel if i find out that one of my kids pic is being used like that.
i hope people are smart enough not to fall in scams like that. its just not right and not a smart thing to do to send money to people you dont really know yet, and making an adoption in craigslist?
