Are you too lazy to think?

I once asked a friend why doesn't he comes to mylot anymore. This is what he answered me 'I am too lazy to think'. It is not a shocking reply as am often in that situation too. Everyday we find tons of discussions here for us to response to but when I am in my off season mood, I tend to pick those easy discussions which doesn't require much thinking. Not that I don't know the subject but it takes much brain cells to come up with a good and viable response which I am too lazy to think. Giving a one line response is inappropriate and it does go down well with the admin. Rather then giving out rubbish and incomprehensible response, I would rather opt out those heavyweight discussions.
Now karma have its way of teaching me a good lesson too. When ever I start a well thought out discussion I get less response and lighter ones will definitely get overwhelming responses. I think many people here don't go for discussions that call for some deep thinking as it may not appeal to them or are just lazy to think. Given these two choices of discussions, do you go for those simple enough to response discussions or those that need deep thinking to response?

Mylot does require some thought, especially if you want to include detailed fact, and reference links. Some posts require research, and emotion, to boot.
Some people work long shifts, and by the time they get off work just want to vegetate and watch tv. Sometimes you have to force yourself to work on mylot. Some people who wear reading glasses have it harder. They put three times as much brain power into things, because of all the focus they put on their eyes.
I think it is rough, I am more apt to use mylot on the weekends than on the weekdays. I work 10-12 hours a day in my offline job, so I understand not wanting to get on here right away.
It is good, though, when you do. Even if you make a small committment of one post a day. It helps exercise your brain. Just like your body needs exercise, so does the brain. I often advise people to buy those books with logic problems and math puzzles. Doing one a day is really good to keep alert and sharp.
Just like learning a little bit about current events every day, and historical events, and eating right, and common day advice.
My lot pays us to learn and engage, and I wish your friend would reconsider, even if just one post a day, he will get ahead, brainwise, and over time build up his ranking.

I do understand that not many people are able to logged in here everyday cos of work commitments. I do logged in here everyday as I run my home business and the internet is easily accessible. You are right, mylot uses a lot of brain power to extract ideas to response or to make out a post so it gives us the mental exercise that we so much needed to keep our brain working. Maybe my friend interest in mylotting is slowly fading.

I don't choose discussions to respond to. I go with whatever is there on top of the line. I do get lazy at times though but not of thinking of words to say..let's just say plain lazy of responding to anything. Sometimes my laziness ends up with 1-2 responses but that's it. I go and answer almost every discussion I pass through when I am not that lazy.

It's not like I'm too lazy to think it's sometimes my mood to write it down. Sometimes I read something in mylot (specially those deep thinking discussions) and make up my opinion about it but then I'm too lazy to write anything or I'm not interesting in replying the question anymore. It's weird I know but I've mylot phases, sometimes I go here and respond to multiple discussions because I want to earn money, sometimes I go here but end up not doing nothing :/ Just reading :)

It does depend on how I am feeling as to which type of discussion I will avoid versus the ones I’ll reply to. If I am tired, have a headache etc...of course the simpler ‘non thinking’ ones are the go although I find it a job trying to be original with my responses either way some days!
It also depends on the topic of course; it is irrelevant how I feel if the topic is of little interest to me.

yes i do sometimes feel pretty tired to think with what to write here at mylot. oh well, i have to agree with you as if one would really want to stay here at mylot, they should always be enthusiastic to respond to interesting topics.

I try to give decent responses, and if I don't think I can, I just don't answer. It is sometimes very difficult for me to come up with something that I feel is worthwhile to write. So, yes, I guess I am.

I probably do a mix of both. Most of the time I avoid the ones that have controversy as I am convinced that I will not change anyone's point of view. I do not mind some philosophical discussions, though, and I certainly do not like the overly simple ones. (Do you like cake?) There are times when I do not have the energy to put into a good response, even if I wanted to, and I admit to just skipping them on that day. Then I find a day like today when I have a lot of time, and I am not really finding many things to respond to.

Gardengerty - I know sometimes it seems like you won't change anyone's mind in the more controversial posts, but there are some silent viewers who will be swayed. Some younger joiners will need to see all sides of a discussion so they can make an educated decision on that topic, and they may end up being a more vocal poster, and may represent exactly how you feel.
You may really help people who need knowledge on a topic. I know sometimes it seems like flame wars, but as long as you are posting good sensible information, and links, it really helps people.

yes you are absolutely right zandi. Most of the mylotters prefer lightweight discussions. There is nothing wrong in that. We have limited time and within that time we need to perform and also earn a few bucks from mylot.
I do love to take up heavyweight discussions when I am having enough time to spend at mylot.

Hi Zandi, I like both and answer both, I am a deep person myself and when there is a deep thinking discussion it makes me think to what is being said and sometimes there is something in between the lines as well to answer too, those I find interesting but other times the more light hearted ones are just easier to answer or give advice to.
For me I like and and answer both sorts, I like to have something to think deeply about before answering....LoLo

I like to get involved in discussions that give me the opportunity to help others and have a good two way discussion. I also tend to hang around the silly and irrelavant discussions just because they are so much fun.
I have noticed that when you don't make an appearance in your friends discussions they won't bother with yours. In fact you might even get removed from their friends list. I really miss grandpa bob.

Hi savak, it has been a long time since I have heard anything from you. Whats up? You are right, when we put up a discussion we are actively interacting with our friends. Not seeing them in our discussions rings a bell that something is not right somewhere but coming in once in a while rekindle the fading thoughts of that particular friend. Oh yes, where has our regular grandpa bob gone? I have not seen him around for quite sometime now.

I have been pretty busy lately with the job that pays the bills and I haven't been on the 'lot' regularly. It has taken me four months to make payout this time. During this period Grandpa Bob deleted all the people from his friends list who hadn't commented on his discussions in awhile. I was one of the ones he removed. I was so chagrined that I hadn't been a better friend that I didn't have the courage to send him another friend request. I'm pretty sure he is still around though. I thought I saw one of his discussions the other day.

Hi angl,
There are two ways to look into this matter. First thing is that presently there are more of the newbies and less the veterans. Most newbies are attracted by lighter topics and intentionally avoid heavy and serious topic. ( Not only the new lotters but also the veterans avoid serious one and have example of that ) The new comers are trying to adjust with the atmosphere here and thee are excellent writers among them.
Second thing most veterans do not encourage the newbies as I have seen while commenting back they are choosy. They pick up only you and me ( I am too left out some time ) and the new faces are utterly neglected. This is unethical in my opinion.
And the most important thing is that our moods do not remain on the same scale all the time. Myself specilally feel tired just before I go off and would not pick up any discussion that demands heavy cells of the brain and hence like you I to look for a lighter one so that I do not need to think much. What I feel is that when you are not in mood it is better not to response. In such situation I opt to take up the uncommented responses and take up a few of them and when I see that they need a bit explanation again I pull off.
This is why I think your frioend and most of us at times are too lazy to think.

The veterans need to encourage the newbies by showing good example in commenting on their responses. I am not choosy when I give my comments. Be it newbies or veterans I treat everyone with fairness. Many of the newbies are born again mylotters. They were here a long time ago and reemerge in new identity. Sometimes my sleepiness drag me down and I feel rundown and my brain refuse to function as required of it. When I can't string two words together, it is a signal that I have over exerted my thinking mind.

Actually I was planning to create a discussion today when all of a sudden i got a bit lazy and started watching videos instead, youtube videos to be exact. sometimes it's really hard to think my brains out. i would check first if such discussion had already been made.

When I start a discussion I never check whether a similar discussion has been posted here. I think whatever we discuss here have already been out here many times over but it is our own version and words so that doesn't clash with those already here and moreover we cater for the newbies who might not have seen the subject.

I really would have to say, I'm the most lazy person you may ever find. Hold on to this moment, you may never find a person as lazy as me. When I wake up, in my street clothes from the day before, I grab my computer, which is sitting on the floor next to my bed. I then log in to either an Mmo or to Facebook. Twelve hours pass. I shut down my computer, put it next to my bed and fall asleep.
