I hate the size that I am. And at the same time I hate that I cannot seem to find the motivation to do anything about. I wish I could develop a slight addiction to exercise. I have managed to go for a walk/run two days in a row now. Yeah Me. But it is sticking with it in the long run that I seem to have the most trouble with. I have made some other changes in my life. I use a smaller dinner plate and I don't get seconds. I have for two weeks consistently taken a fiber supplement and multivitamin every morning. But I cannot seem to give up soft drinks. Although I have cut back.
What is everyone else doing to get fit or remain fit. And how do you stay motivated in the long run?

I have been sitting in hospital situations for about 9 months now, with my son. One day I realized I did not feel good because I was used to being up. I started walking when I had a chance. Like when they bathed him or someone was there working with him. Well, then I found a Runner's World magazine at at store and thought maybe I could do that because it didn't cost much. It was a lot of work at first, I mean WORK!!!! I stuck with it though because I didn't really have any other options that were inexpensive. I started with this 8 week traing plan to runnig 2 miles. After about 3 weeks I passed the plan by and started my own plan... now I run about 3.5 miles three days a week and just ran 5 miles "for fun" Saturday. I am addictied... mostly to the way mybody feels. Maybe you can find something like that to get addicted to... it's also possible you are not pushing yourself enough if you are easily bored with it.

I'm somewhat in the same situation, though I have motivated myself to use a YMCA membership. I work out several hours at a time for several days a week. However, I'm having a hard time completely changing my eating and drinking habits. I've cut down on soft drinks, but I am totally tempted by them and will drink at least a cup of soda pop a day. I've been taking smaller meal portions, but I don't have much of a say in what my family stocks in the refrigerator.
I used to be fairly decent-sized, but I was never the skinny girl. I was pretty fit until I transferred to a new college, then my lifestyle changed. I became busier, devoted less time to myself, and ate and drank whatever was available. I gained about forty pounds in about a year and a half. I ended up being disappointed in myself. I figured that if I could pour so much effort into academics and work, then I could do the same at exercising. It was just a matter of desperately wanting it, wanting to feel better about myself and know that I can be healthy.
Getting into shape is hard work, both physically and mentally. It doesn't always go the way you'd like, old habits are hard to break, and new ones are hard to adopt. It's really a matter of combining motivation, encouragement from others, and the willingness to change. You have to find what works for you, and perhaps you can become addicted to that. For me, I found quite a few machines at the gym that I like using to work out. I also run and walk the track. Afterward, I treat myself to a swim in the pool and time in the hot tub. I'm still kind of breaking myself into the habit of getting off my bum and going to the gym. The food part is definitely the most difficult though.
Good luck with everything. Just hang in there. =)
