Is hip hop/rap dead?

Give your reasons why you think rap/hip hop is either dead or alive and kicking. I personally feel that hip hop is in an idle stage. There haven't been many improvements lately. It seems as if everyone is producing the same sounds and same themes. Kanye West tried to think outside of the box with his album "808s and Heartbreak." I would like to see more artists thinking outside the box.

Rap/Hip Hop is indeed idle. I think it became that way in 2008. Before then i always was listening to the local hip hop station. But now i dont even care...there is nothing worth listening to except maybe Soulja Boy and Kanye. Thats it! I like hip hop but i would rather listen to the old stuff.
