landscape timbers

is there a right or wrong way on how to put timbers in around flower beds. we are using the small landscape timbers do you put them down flat or do you put them the other way

The right way is whatever way you choose to lay them. I don't think there is a right or wrong way to lay them, whatever way you are most pleased with. Don't follow the norm do it your way and create a garden that is personal to you, you don't want your garden to look like everybody else's.
