where did the water go?

ok so I did the usual add chemicals and back wash and rinse and backwash and rinse and turned that dial back to filter and don't you know 24 hours later I look out and sure as I wish my eyes deceived me they hadn't. I notice that 12 inches of water have disappeared! So needless to say the pump is happily filtering what water is left my heart had sunk below the drain level of the inground pool we have. Of course the little cleaning pellets I had put in 24 hours ago are gone. The basket is empty. The skimmer is above water and don't you know we have had so much rain lately I had to do that backwashing just because it was time and I HAD extra water. Ha Ha for how long that lasted. Now hubby says since he has looked at the pump and such that he believes some switch is not sealing ugh! All I can say is the water department is going to be thrilled to bill me again and I am going to be crying so to speak since as if the switch wasn't enough of a expense you know the water bill will catch up to me next month. At least 20.00 worth of water down the yard and I am not even sure how a switch can make that much of a difference. Did that ever happen to you? The last time this happened to us hubby said it was the main switch seal. We didn't replace that so that was where I thought the water went, out the backwash and on the ground slow but certainly faster when we yep lost about 12 inches that time to. The time before that it was a broken pipe so all water hitting the pump system was being pumped on the ground. Yep it was 12 inches or so then to. I guess loosing 36 inches of water in 6 years I shouldn't whine about but geez! Tell me about your pool problems or pool stories, or just sympathize with me for mine! God Blesses! Sandy

I don't know for sure where your water went but I have a sneaking suspicion it found its way into my bathtub. I have been working on this particular plumbing problem for weeks now. The drain just will not let the water go out of the tub. After taking apart the plastic pipes each time I take a shower or bath... causing yet another shower to fall down upon my head... I actually found the irritant. The joint right by the main sewer line in the basement.
Yes Sandy I believe not only my bath water but your pool water has been sitting in my tub off and on for about two weeks. I will try to send you back your water as soon as possible. Love ya

Well thanks so much for responding. I cannot tell you how much it warms my heart to know not only where the water went but that you are accepting responsibility for it. I tell you what, you keep the water I don't really want it back but as far as the water company is concerned they don't care what I did with what I had in there either. They do however want their re-imbursement for the water they allowed me to use as I saw fit. (putting it in the pool and letting it disappear) which was where you came in and said you know it surely was sitting in your tub. I was going to volunteer to just send the bill your way, but after thinking about it and thinking yet some more I figured I would just pay it because... You are correct I am sure your retalliation in sending me the plumbing bill would put me at a loss. Because even if your handy, or have a handy other half or friend they would surely be able to write up a bill for the service rendered and it would cost more for that trap to be cleaned out even if it was never cleaned but drained and scraped by a average Joe and not a true Joe the plumber from blah blah oh my God, I don't know how I would ever pay this latest plumbing bill. It cost more than the house did when it was just built brand new. God Blesses! Thanks for the awesome laugh. Sandy. P.S. I tried my hardest to return the favor! :)

Sorry to hear your having trouble with your pool. They can need maintenance now and then that's for sure. In some instances your not doing to bad actually. You were at least able to find what was wrong and fix it before you lost more water than what you did.
Hope it is all working now for you all.

thanks so much for responding. The maintenance can be such a killer though so it seems. To me I think it's like having a vehicle and the motor is just not that big but hey I know I have a pool so I try to not complain to much. It is indeed working now but for the life of me I can't honestly say what my husband did except to add that we had more than 2 discussions concerning it. I think he basically said... that a 2 way valve was broken but honestly there still is no site of the water that disappeared. God Blesses! Sandy
