Recently I listend to BBC news and I heard in Japan they have a new machine called Smile Scanner. It works by canculating the opitimum curvature of lips of people and tells you what's your facial expression should be when you deal with in your customer. Now the machine has been used in a railway company of Japan. when i first time heard the machine i felt it's interesting, but also felt it's too funny and ridiculous. How about you? Have you heard the news? Will you use it to help in your life?

yes I heard that news in CNN. It was invented in Japan and they used it in railway company. I found it funny bcoz if you were working in crowd of people and you customer service even though your tired you need to smile. But what if the smile scanner detect that the curvative of your lips is not that perfect your tired already or you feel pain but you want to perform your job perfectly. Are you going to shout to your worker or fired them bcoz they don't attain the optimum curvature of the lips for the smile. I don't think it was usefull in this life.

it's exactly the reason i started the discussion. i thought if the smile is not from the heart of employees, even they smiled to customers, customers still can not feel warm welcome when they accept the service. thanks for your opinion and happy mylotting.

Hi,it is so interesting ,I admire how Japanese dedicate to their customer. And I think this is a good idea especially for the service partment of companys.coz people prefer to see a smiling face in the businese. And work would be less pressure, if "Smile Scanner" could teach people give you that face even the most comfortable face you like. By the way,I wish most of the clients in banks in China could use the machine, lol. For myself,I always smile to people, but I really want to use the machine to check which kind of smiling face I could make people more happy, haha.

i understand what you mean. you must have had bad experience with the bank service. i know they usually don't smile, even you can say they are very arrogant sometimes in front their clients. however it really changed a lot. I think chinese bank service will catch up the international service soon. thanks for your response.

Wow - that sounds interesting and kind of strange. I guess maybe it could help people in some professions. I guess it does sound a little silly though too. I don't think I would use it if I had the chance, but it's great if it helps some people out!

Oh yes, it's useful. For your information that "machine" already sell world wide as one of the phone feature. Do you know Sony Ericsson cybershot? the latest version mostly have a smile shutter feature, it is the same method like smile scanner you are talking about. If the phone camera switched to the smile shutter mode, we don't need to push any button to take portrait of people's face, the camera will automatically shot when it find curvature of smiling lips on the object. It's quite useful as a camera timer, we won't need any timer, just place the camera in its stand, when you are ready just smile to make the camera capture your picture automatically

If a company set up a machine to get the worker to smile probably they go to the wrong approach. Why don't they just give more salary to the worker, it's the easiest way to make them smile at the work Smile is natural, so when people forced to smile, they will looks weird, better not smile at all.

Hello there, This sounds ridiclulous but i guess can be helpful too.Nowadays, with fast life on the lane, especially city life, life seems so busy and people will always in a rush that others forget to smile. LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE...THIS IS REALLY TRUE. So,how can anyone laughed when they can't even smile. My SONY CYBERSHOT DIGICAM had this "smile scanner",it won't clik if the person's not smilling. So,everyone should show a little bit of teeth,or a monalisa smile ...and it's good anyway. Smiling is not bad at all,it can relax some face muscles

Thanks for reply. happy mylotting.

I does not believe such things because smile is not just lip movement.True smile comes from heart.Peoples are just acting infront of such devices. We cant measure human emotions with a parameter.......!
