Hey friends, some people are closer to their pets than they are to real people. So what do you think of people like this and also do you think that animals can understand when we are talking to them? I have a few frogs that seem to want to get outside of my window and night and they chirp away. So I told them to be quite because they couldn't sing. As I was trying to sing at the time. I wasn't feeling too good so I didn't want to hear those darn frogs carrying on. Anyhow they got quiet after I told them they couldn't sing, hee hee. I'm serious they really did get quiet. So have you ever talked to an animal and thought they could understand you?

I was watching an animals show not so long ago and it was stated that dogs can understand so many words if they are trained... I know the little dog next door to me understands me who speaks English and he also understands a few words of Greek so he is a clever little dog...

I think they understand to a point - if they didnt understand you would never be able to train them - teach them commands and signals. They wouldnt come when called. Sometimes its the tone, the words or even the body language but they understand what one is feeling or thinking.
I know my dogs, cats, horses are more likely to stand and let me catch them and be with them if im unhappy and just need someone's presence to feel better...my horses are "good" listeners - venting always feels good when i tell my horse whats up...and she listens she bobs her head and leans into me. They can also tell if one is grumpy or likely to yell.

Domesticated animals, like dogs, cats, and birds, can be trained to recognize several words or commands. My dogs know "sit, down, heel, wait, off, walk" and my pit bull knows "army crawl." If a treat is involved, it is done with gusto!
For things other than commands, it is more about body language, tone of voice, and actions. For instance, if I go get my tennis shoes and then make eye contact with her, my lab starts going crazy and stomping her feet, because she knows she is about to go on a walk with me.
Regarding wild animals, they may stop making noise when you speak to them because they heard you make noise and they kept quiet as a survival instinct. Anything that makes a noise that close to them is usually perceived as a predator, which is a threat, so they keep quiet to avoid being located and captured or eaten. So the frogs you told to keep quiet only did so because the sound of your voice shut them up so you wouldn't find them. In the wild, it is all about survival and procreation, and nothing else.

I feel that they can understand us. I have had many pets over the years and they always seem to know things that you wouldn't have thought they would understand. Like my cat knows and understands that my daughter who is 2 is just a little kid and doesn't know better how to treat her if she is sometimes too rough. She's never taken a swip at her or anything. The same with the horses that my neighbor has. They seem to just know that she's little and want to take care of her.

Dear friend,
I do can see as we keep those animals as pets and how well they show their affection to their master and others they love. More over just go to the circus we could see how well the animals understand us. I hope the only thing they need is proper training.

Ha ha ha... That is funny.
Yes I believe animals can understand us. I am always talking to our pets and I am pretty sure after awhile they know exactly whet we are saying to them. Dogs, cats, birds, donkeys, goats. Those are the animasI have communicated with and I know pretty much that they unstood our conversation.
My father as good at training animals that way. They just loved him and would follow him around.

I guess they do. We have cats at home and they know time for eating even if you don't call them, they are waiting outside the door, specially the cats of our neighbors.
I also have fishes at home, well they tell us clearly if they are hungry, i can see their gestures very well. Even if we clean the tank, they know too since our janitor fish would abide placing himself in the net to be transferred without hesitation.
Just see those intelligent birds that can talk and imitate words. They really understood us well too. If you watch that intelligent bird named Einstein, it was on Youtube, you can see how that bird perfectly speaks and interact. If only we can understand their language too.

they can really understand us.. i had this dog, my whitey dog, she is so sweet that every time i arrived she will kiss my legs and have some fun, but if i look so tired and angry, she will pause a while and stare at me and i think she will read my mind and face after that she will hide in her place and don't even give me a kiss on my leg.. that was so unbelievable of her and i really love that whitey dog of mine..!!

I believe animals understand us, more than we do them. There was a story of a surfer who was attacked by a shark. The dolphins came to his rescue. They went on a V formation and shielded the wounded surfer when the shark was about to inflict another bite. The surfer lived to tell his miraculous adventure. As to the frogs though, there are two syllables in the noise they produce. The first one KO is the male frog courting the female frog. The KAK is the female response to the courting. This goes on for a time. When it is quiet, they are mating.

Hm...well..according to your story..i guess the animal can understand what people said to them.
Such cat, or dog or others, if they've already close to the human, i think they have the same feeling with us.
Yes i think that animals can understand us.

It depends on the level of understanding I guess, but I think they do understand us. I know that animals have feeling too, so they can somehow feel us or take sympathy with us some times. Once you trained an animal and it follows, it's also one manifestation that they do understand us.
