Now, we know I love history and have started many discussions in the subject.
Yesterday - or was it earlier today - I started one about ancient footwear.
I got this very... interesting response and I would like to know what you guys think of it.

I'm feeling a bit attacked by this response, and I'd like to get some other people's take on it.
And if you feel like responding to him - that's fine too...

Clearly, the guy is here solely for the money. I don't know how he managed to have lasted three years with the same MyLot profile.

He often gets adamant in the discussions he responds to.No point arguing with him. He has told you, very firmly, his belief. It is his belief. Does not change the fact that there are some very cool, very old shoes.I am a young earth believer as well (I think) but I also know that an all powerful God can make things fit His time table not man's records. I still think the shoes were awesome.

Well we all have to suffer through peoples outrageous beliefs at times. He does this all the time. I think that it's the "Born Again Brain Syndrome" as I call it. It seems to me everyone I have come across that is newly 'Born Again' they think they know all and have found the "Right Religion". Oh well he'll see the light someday when he leaves his tired shell.
Blessed be,
Mari

Don't feel attacked by anyone who obviously doesn't have all the facts. She said she is a brand-new "born again Christian". I remember when my mother became "born-again". She was unbearable! She thought she had all the answers to every single question that ever existed. Becoming "born-again" does not make you smarter, although a lot of them believe it does.
Christianity is a belief, nothing more. Maybe it is a real thing but I have yet to see any bona fied proof that the things written in the Bible are factual. Even the Shroud of Turin was disproved. I'm not an athiest, I'm an agnostic. I need proof.
Also, I believe that it was shown that one year back in the Old Testament days was MUCH longer than what we think of as one year.
I wish that these hard-core Christians would accept that fact that they have a belief that some people do not share, and accept these others just as they want to be accepted for their beliefs. Hypocrisy at it's finest, don't you think?
Just for the record, I believe the scientists who have shown that the real age of our planet is about 4.5 billion years (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_the_Earth). Artifacts showing that homosapiens existed back 100,000 years or so (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/evolution/humans/humankind/o.html). It would be extremely narrow-minded to think that Man did not invent footwear until after Biblical times!
I'd say just let it go. We will always encounter people who know less than we do (but think they know more) as well as people who know more than we do (and can back it up with facts). Don't let one bad apple spoil the fun.

Well, that's awesome! Now, see, I love learning new things, even if it's something that disputes what I've learned. Now, you've got me wanting to learn more about anthropology.
It's funny but, at one point in my life, I wanted to be an anthropologist. But, that soon changed to veterinarian. Unfortunately, neither one happened. But I've always been fascinated by ancient civilization. So, it's off to see what I can learn.
Thanks for the info, pye!

Wow...I just got the original discussion and haven't even managed to respond to it yet. I certainly didn't see anything in it that should have started a fight but that seems to be what you got. I read the article and found it interesting...dating aside, whether it's 8000 or 800 years ago, I still found it interesting and fun to read. I think things kind of got out of hand with this response, getting into the Bible, Christians, Witches and so forth. The fact is everything is entitled to think how they want. If someone didn't like the article then oh well. Personally I did and thank you for posting it.

Biting my tongue, biting my tongue, biting my tongue. That comment just adds more weight to my views on religion.
I think they need to get their head out of the bible for a while, and have a look at the real world to get a better perspective on the world.
Narrow mindedness is something that religion tends to breed, which is why I have very different views on religion, but that's a debate best not gotten into, or I'll be here all night.

That response definitely fits under the category of "odd". Seems to me, he's just looking to spar with someone. His argument is not cogent, so I guess he's simply spoiling for a fight. But you can't argue with stupidity. Can't fix it either. And I truly don't care to try.
Keep on keepin on, kiddo.

Did you know ...
The universe is a rat race. We try to make things idiot-proof, & the universe tries to make a better idiot. I wonder if the universe won this rat race by making the guy who responded just above yours.

Everyone has their belief and hangup. We are all people and no one is perfect or will believe in the same things. Even though it would be nice if some were not so blunt with wording.
I personal believe that carbon dating is a bit off so what The shoes are old and interesting to know about so keep up the good work and be yourself

Thanks, ElicBxn, I am glad you enjoyed the "interesting response." That was my hope when I responded to your Post. I've been a member here for over 3 years, and am quite well known. Please check my past posts, and responses, if you so desire.
I enjoy religious discussions because they usually stir up some interesting ideas, and this post (to which you are referring) was no exception. Please believe me when I say, " I had no intention to offend, but the opportunity to play the Devils Advocate, completely took me over, and the result was Almost Overwhelming! I found it quite thrilling, and everyone benefited from the controversy as well.
Once again let me apologize for any offense taken. Believe me when I say, " There was no offense intended!"

Oh boy, you've been "attacked" by a loony! It's people like that that make Christians look ridiculous and petty and I resent it because I'm a Christian, too. But I'm one that thinks God wants me to use the brain He gave me. You just have to ignore people like that because they won't change and you can't make them--they've put their brains in cold storage and become automatons that recite scripture and use it to justify their small little world. Don't let it bother you.

Interesting how a discussion about shoes got a long thread about christianity. I guess there were some words there in the article which struck a cord within the individual which set them off.
It happens. A mention of the bible and belief in it always seems to generate such heat here.
I guess the individual has realised by this that their answer was out of context. Thats what happens when we are all riled up about something. Anything that springs or sings like it will get batted down.

I think it was Elic saying that the shoes were 8000 years old which rather flies in the face of the belief that the world was created in 4004 BC according to the archbishop who made the calculation.

The guy is a nutcase looking for a nutshell to inhabit. The more you react, the more he'll come back. I'd say just ignore him and pretend he's not there. If he doesn't get attention, he'll have to sustenance on which to feed.
