Ever Gone Cycling on a Marathon Course?

There is a marathon coming up nearby, and I've heard it is one of the most beautiful marathons in the state. I was sad that I am not in good enough shape yet to run the marathon (it's in October), but then I noticed that there is a time when they allow people to bike through the course. The course is fairly flat, so 26.2 miles is like a piece of cake! I live in the hills and so anything flat is so easy. I think you only get 2 hours, but that should be no problem. I average about 15 mph on a bicycle even with the hills. So anyone here ever done this? Is it pretty fun? I think it will be better than running it almost since really I'll probably see more if I'm on a bicycle since I won't have to try so hard. I do need to get back in shape a little bit since I haven't been cycling for awhile. But I know I can still do this. I used to do 100 miles per week, easily 40 in one day, and recently I did 8 miles through steep hills, so 26 on flat isn't as bad as that. But I think overall this will be cool.

I haven't been on a bike since I was 13.I hope you bike the course. That way you can scope it out so you can run in the marathon next time.

Yeah, that would probably be a good idea to get a feel for the distance I will be running in the future. :) I can hardly wait! I went to the bike shop today since there was one near my eye doctor. I bought the required brake light. Then I went to a running store nearby too, hoping to find some cheap trail shoes so I could do a trail race coming up this month. But I didn't end up finding any so I'll have to try my current shoes on that trail sometime this week to make sure those will work before registering for that event. If you told me a few years ago that I would someday be registering for sports type events, I would have said you were out of your mind! LOL Seriously I am the least athletic person I know.

Sounds like a really good ride. I'm hoping to do the London to Brighton ride next year, its around 56miles and has a massive hill right at the end. Last year there were 27,000 riders took part, its the biggest bike ride event in the UK.

That sounds really cool! Except for that massive hill at the end... I hope that I can do a longer ride someday too.

I have never done that. I have not been on a bike in ages and my body knows it. It does sound like it would be way coold to do though. I hope you have tons of fun.

Aw, I'd yell at you to get back on the bike... but that would be hypocritical of me since I've been lazy about biking ever since I got a car, lol. But I used to go out 100 miles per week. But I can still do a flat ride and I can still go 15 miles per hour easily. So this should be awesome!

That sounds good - if it is all flat and only just over 26 miles it should be pretty easy to do in 2hrs! Have fun! x

Yeah, it says mostly flat which is good for the runners. I'm just not ready to run it yet, so hopefully it should be fun on the bicycle. :) Thanks for the encouragement!
