Why are some guys so mean!!!?

I am not talking about every single guy obviously, but those guys that are just plain jerks! I just came back from talking to one of my friends and she was telling me how this guys she was dating told her she was ugly and his friends would be mean to her aswell. I mean, I have been teased before and its not nice because it makes you feel bad and lowers your self confidence. I believe that no one is ugly, everyone has something different that makes them unique. I remember being teased in middle school and high school about me having a big nose. It did make me feel uncomfortable but the funny thing was that is came mainly from guys. I think it hurts more when a guy tell you something like that because it makes you think that no one will ever be interested in you if this guy that just called you ugly said so. I feel bad for my friend, I thought he was a nice guy that would treat her right, but I guess some guys are just bigger jerks around friends. Anyways to make this story short, have any of you had an experience with something similar that made you feel less confident? If you're a guy, has any girl done it to you?
