I admit that i'm a backslidden christian. I call myself a born-again christian, yet I know that i'm sinning greatly. Maybe that's the reason why I haven't received the holy spirit and speak in tongues. Do you believe in speaking in tongues? If you do, how does it feel?

Hello, I'm so sorry about being so late on this discussion. But I felt it was very important that I respond to it anyway. I first took some time to read over the previous discussions that have been made. And I do agree with levite on both discussions on coming back to Jesus Christ, and about speaking in tongues. However, after reading all the discussions it seems that there might be some people who might be making you think that Jesus Christ is not real and stay clear of seeking the gifts of God. Please! DO NOT listen to them who are trying to stear you away from coming back to the Lord. I can truly assure you by God's Holy Word and His testamony in me, which will never fail, that Jesus Christ is for real, God's only Son. So in order to know more, go to the only source that has the true answers, and that is God's Holy Word. Read it, study it carefully in the book of St.John and ask God to be real to you and Jesus Christ, and lets not leave out the Holy Spirit. He is the key to understanding everything about God Himself.
Now, about speaking in tongues which was your question. Yes, I do believe and speak in tongues. But I don't speak in tongues unless the Holy Spirit promps me to do so. Speaking in tongues is not a gift to be ashamed of, because it can only be receive by the Holy Spirit. Many years ago, when I was a young teenager, I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, because I had ask to receive Him. The experience cannot be explained in words. As of today, I do speak in tongues, but mainly it is done in private prayer and worship to the Lord. Speaking in tongues is the evidence of the power of the Holy Spirit present in our lives. Apostle Paul did not discourage anyone from having this gift of speaking in tongues, because this comes from the Holy Spirit. This is a language we communicate in the Spirit during our time of prayer, praise and worship to the Lord. This gift is also used to edify the Church body. But as God's Word says, there needs to be an interpertor in the midst of the Church body who is willing to be used by God to give His message to the body of Christ. But as I said, in order to really get your answer go to the right source, which is, God's Word, His Word will not stear you wrong, I can guarrantee that much. But I hope I have given you some help in some way or another. Continue to seek Him. Thank you.

Don't be discouraged. The apostle Paul says to seek all the gifts. Whatever gifts we seek, if we truely believe that we will received them, then keep believing and wait patiently until it comes. I waited thirteen years before I spoke in tongues. Now it never leaves me. I can talk in tongues, sing in tongues, think in tongues. It comes naturally. I went through changes, a list too long to say, all good. Keep praying and believing.

Receiving the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues are not synonymous. Speaking in tongues is a gift of the Spirit and some have been given this gift and others have not. I know from experience that there are those who speak in tongues, I've heard them; but unless there's someone who can interrupt what's being said, what good is it? It's my understanding, and I might be wrong about this, that even demon possessed people speak in tongues they've never learned. I think the gifts of the Spirit is explained best by the Apostle Paul in I Corinthians 12:1-12.
I have no problem with people speaking in tongues unless it makes them think it somehow makes them more holy or more Christian than the next person.

That might be the reason why you haven't receive the holy spirit and speak tongues. It is possible for you to speak tongues too, if you are sorry and you're regretting the sins you have done and ask for God's forgiveness, if you are willing to correct all the mistakes you have done in life then you are always forgiven and welcome in God's embrace. Take the story of the prodigal son, Jesus lost lamb and many more in the Bible. As a human, it is inevitable of us to be tempted to do such sinful acts. God gave us the gift to know what is right and wrong yet God always forgives us if we have done wrong if we are responsible and honest to ourselves admit and willing to reconcile by confessing our sins and be good. I believe in speaking in tongues, I can't say I've experienced it because I think we can't feel it because whenever we speak in tongues apart from our own selves, the holy spirit has bestowed within us speaking out inspirational and wonderful messages that has the power to influence people. I noticed speaking in tongues from priests. Whenever I feel goodness on the words or messages of a priest I believe they are not only speaking by themselves, I believe that every word they say are guided by the holy spirit.

It is one of the God's gift I have received during my baptism of the Holy Spirit. I speak in tongues to strengthen my spiritual life not only in my prayer life. Feeling is only secondary as spiritual warfare is the goal in speaking in tongues. I don't feel anything when speaking in tongues. If you are a backslidden Christian, then better come back to God while there is time and opportunity. Pray that God gives you strength. This not the time to backslide but to move forward like Christian soldiers. Jesus is the Good Shepherd always waiting for the lost sheep to return to Him. Humble yourself and pray.
