My family is not an affectionate one but we love one another in our own way. I'm currenty watching the necrological service for the former president cory aquino. It makes me sad to see her daughter crying and regretting all the things she had done to stress her mom.

You just required to express your love, emotion and affection to your parents. At this old age you can compare him as a baby. They just need feeling of love which they expect from you.
You can understand when a baby trying to hold mom as due to fear same thing happen when parents become old and trying to hold their son/daughter.
I and my family trying to show love and affection towards my parents.

hello denise!
i am also watching this necrological service and yes its quite emotional...and i also saw her children crying upon hearing good word other people are saying to their mother...and its really overwhelming seeing how other people are paying respect to our parents...
now back to your topic, well me, i am not that vocal in saying my parents how i feel for them...i am more of actions. but when i am talking to them on phone or text always ended the talk with the words 'love you, take care" something like that but in face to face talk, i rarely say those words...i don't know why but even if i like saying those it feels that i am a little shy telling those...huh! i don't really know if that's shyness...
but i know, that they really know and feel how much i love them, how much i care for them...and if i can't say it in words...i just make a letter or send them cards on special days and there i can freely express my love for them...

In our local language there is no word to express our love to parents but we express through respecting them.In English people say "I love Dad /Mom".I am always baffling, when I hear this one,why our locallanguage use the same word to express affection towards our life partner.
