I visited Goa for a fortnight last December. It was one of the most rewarding holidays of my life.
We booked a flight and ordered our visas. We did not book any accomodation. I would recommend doing it this way to anyone considering going, unless you have children. We landed and took a taxi to Baga. You save yourself a fortune by going around and haggling for accomodation. The taxi drivers are incredibl helpful and again it is worth haggling for fares.
We had a fantastic taxi driver who took us to a spice plantation. I would say this is an absolute MUST SEE for any ourist in Goa. You are given a tour of the plantation and a lovely traditional lunch included in the price. You can buy any of the spices and we even had the opportunity to ride an elephant and have a shower with another.
Travelling about is incredibly easy and checking out the beachs in Southern Goa is fantastic. You can sleep very cheaply in any one of the beach huts/shacks, Palolem was lovely, we stayed at Chatai which I would say was the high point of our holiday.
Anjuna market is fantastic as competition between sellers is fierce. Just prepare yourself for a lot of pestering and be willing to haggle. I would say cut the price down by 50% and see where it takes you.
If you'd like anymore info just given us a shout.
Have a wonderful time
