its a kind of giving respect to elder by folding both the hands and saying "Namaste" in India. folding the hands also tells the person is having no weapen in his hand can be treated as friend.

Actually Namaste is a word made of two words Namah and Te that means aapka main naman karta hoon.

"Namaste" is the word used by indians to wish the people and show respect towards elders. actually it does by folding both hands and telling the others my hands are empty ..i am your fiend !!!! (just as shaking hands)
