Since I am studying to be a drug and alcohol counselor I thought my experience earlier today was quite funny...
I was in line at the pharmacy with my daughter, and this woman came up to us and started talking to me. Being nice and polite I engaged in the small talk. She proceeded to tell me that she is extremely excited today because she just received her 5 year sobriety chip! As I was telling her congrats and stuff she informed me she is a recovering crack addict. Immediately after telling me she is a recovering crack addict she asks me if I can help her find vicodens, percocets, or any other narcotic pain killer, her dealer of 2 years was just incarcerated. I just kind of scratched my head for a moment....what I really wanted to ask her is ... how can you brag about 5 years of sober living if you are now addicted to narcotic pain killers.
Sober living at its finest! haha j/k
This was a shocking experience for me, and made me realize if I decide to definately work with drug and alcohol addicts that I will be dealing with manipulating lying individuals on a daily basis....hmmm is this the right choice on my part? I am still debating this!
