When Choosing Discussions on MyLot-

United States
August 4, 2009 1:11pm CST
Where do you go and how do you choose them? Do you only make your own discussions and not reply to others? Do you search through the topics or go to your friends forums? Do you ever respond to no resonses or new responses? I figured asking these questions may help to increase our knowledge of how to benefit the most from our peers here on the site. Thanks for you participation!

I usually start with the 'my interests' tab, then the 'no responses' then 'friends started'. The last category I go to is 'today's top'. I reply to far more than I start.

You know, I rarely go to the top discussions for "work" only because I like to be able to find what I wrote and the responses from others (if there are any) and skimming through 20 or 50 or even 100 responses takes too much time. I support the "little guys" anyway, and greatly appreciate when others do it for me as well!

I have reset my home page to include new discussion, new user discussions, discussions from my interests, discussions my friends have started, my discussions, and discussions I've responded to! this covers all the areas, so I get a broad picture of what's out there without having to search for anything. I did this about 6 months ago and have never looked back! I look for what would require a good opinion based response or something like this here! I avoid this post that ask for yes or no responses! LOL! tdemex

I have a few hundred friends here on MyLot, and I'm accepting new ones every day. i have all of those friends set to notify me when a new discussion starts. I don't have to look too closely to find a new discussion. I just need to check my e-mail for new discussions that my friends have started.

I am not sure how many friends I have on my page, but the numbers are up there, that's for sure! And I am like you-I am eager to add friends (selectively, of course, based on interests mainly) to help keep other's interesting posts at my fingertips. I am sure you don't have try to hard here on Mylot-you have an amazing rating and score! When did you get started?

Hi princess! I am a friends started tab user for discussions. If I have taken care of them I will move to todays top. I usually don't start but one every week for myself. I have went to the recent tab before. I think that after this discussion I'll check out the no responses tab too. Take care.

I try to generate as much activity as I can by both responding to others topics and creating my own. (Although I don't have quite the knack to get forums started that too many people seem to be interested in.) I figured maintaining friends is a great way to start with higher volume of traffic to my page and responses to my threads. I know I do, anyway, check the people that I seem to have the most in common with before I search out "stranger's" material.

Hi there, usually I manage to come up with my own discussions here on mylot. They just seem to pop into my head from my everyday walk of life. If I have a problem or something that I can't figure out, I will usually write a discussion about it and see what all of mylot buddies out there are thinking of the situation. But a few times I will go to the mylot digest and see what's happening. Since some of those discussions are supposed to be the best. Happy mylot.

I just start by picking a ceategory and finding discussion within tha tcategory to post to. It doesn't matter if it is my friends discussions or not, because I post to the ones that are interesting to me. It has been hard lately to find good discussions ot post to, as a lot of them habe been repates from other discussions that have been posted already. I have had a very hard time latley finding disucssiosn to post to. When that happens I will just go and do a search and see if there is something there I can post to. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

I do scan through alot of my friends posts though to find things to respond to. After all, we are virtual friends, maening we have some things in common, right? I am quite selective when adding friends or choosing them-I enjoy getting to know someone a little bit in the forums and seeing what there interests are. Generally speaking, my friends have pretty interesting topics to choose from.

I spend most of my time in "relationships" and respond to people asking for advice or help if I feel I can contribute. I also look through the no responses, new, or recent to see if I can contribute anything there. While I have posted some discussions I admit not many. I enjoy mostly seeing if there is anything I can do to help. Of course, as with everyone I move to other topics now and then but prefer "relationships".

I always start off with top news of the day discussions. Then I go over to top discussions of the day and usually start there with the "no response" discussions- then I work my way over to the discussions my friends have started or responded to. I do look at blogs once in a blue and comments on them as well. I then go over to "recent" discussions to see if any new ones have been posting while I start my daily "mylot" routine. From there I may check my interests tab but not very often ;)

I think I response more than I usually post my own topic. It seems that most topics are the same or sounds the same, so I don't mind to response rather than create my own topic, in which I will only get disappointed if nobody or not much people participate. It seems that a lot of members have been posting their topics and mostly , not all questions here have been answered to. In which the topic has been piled up alreay by a new or coming topics. I don't research much on the topic. I just post away my answer once I get to read someone's topic or discussion. But if I have enough time to browse and do that, then why not. After all, expressing our opinion is what Mylot is all about.

With how many people are here, I am sure there are many topics that are the same, and some members may not respond to topics if they have all ready responded to the same type elsewhere, but then again, maybe they will, if they have information or opinions that they would really like to be heard! I really try to get as many topics started as I can, because it is easiset to respond to the ones you have created, as opposed to have to search through potential pages of nothing that strikes your interest. However, many of my topics go unnoticed, so I just keep trying and trying!

choosing discussion on mylot! Hello Princess, there are a number of ways that I go about choosing a discussion.First I will usually go to friends started which is at the top of the tool bar. Then I look to see if there are any interesting discussions. If so I will post if not I won't. Next I go to "Hot" to see if there anything really hot out there. Sometimes I will see at least a few discussions worth responding to. So I'll usually leave a few. then I go on to new and recent. Last but not least I will go to no responses. Just to see who I can help out. Sometimes I go to best responses and so on and so forth. Usually there is no set way that I go about it. But the main thing with me is that if someone post a really good discussion they can almost always expect some sort of feedback from me. I usually like to comment more than I post discussions of my own. Now I'm going to go and take a break. Thanks for posting. happy mylot.

When I log on, I check the discussions on my home page under 'interests' and 'friends.' As I respond to those, I also check out the 'similar discussions' on the right of the page. Then I look at the topics across the top. If I haven't found anything there, I go to some of my friends profile pages, as they may have responded to a discussion I missed, and I can pick it up from there. After that, I'll type one of my main interests - writing, reading, Mylot, questions and answers - into the search box at the top of the page. If I'm still struggling, I'll try the 'no responses' tab, but I find increasingly these days that many of those discussions have no responses because they are simply not worth responding to! I tend to log on several times a day rather than spend one long session here. That way, there is a good range of discussions going through. I prefer to respond rather than start discussions, but when I do start them, I make sure I return and comment regularly.

Some people have great talents in creating discussions. I choose my discussions based on my experience of some context to express. Anything easy is the best one because your able to contribute a lot more. Now the difficult one's shouldn't be avoid but take some time to respond to it because you have an opportunity to help a mylotter with a problem that is seeking and answer. No stone should never left unturned. And no discussion should ever be unanswered. God bless

I create new topics whenever a subject comes to mind that I think may generate some activity. However, a lot of my topics get little or no attention, so I just keep plugging away hoping I will get something somewhere! I steer clear of threads that ask for advice with "deep" problems, but I like opinioated ones or ones that deal with every day things, like cooking, parenting, culture, and entertainment.

I got to top discussions first, and then i go to those which are in my interest section. I also respond to other's responses if i feel they have added something valuable.

I try my best not to accept discussions i have something to say. I see no point in answering with idk. That just doesnt create conversations. I also wony even attempt to leave that as amessage because i figured that would be consider as spam. But it is difficult at times to find a discussion to contribute to. They truly have a vast variety of questions from such a diverse online community. God bless
