Cost of Senior Pictures

I took my son for his senior pictures about a month ago. Last week when we went to pay for his locker and get his schedule, they had the proofs for the senior pics available.
We looked through the pictures, all of which are good, and then got to the package prices. Oh my goodness! The CHEAPEST package, which only offers one pose, is 130.00 plus tax! We couldn't believe how expensive it is!
To get the package with all six poses it was 799.00
Good thing I was able to write enough articles to cover the cost of the cheapest package!
Anybody else think they are charging way too much for senior pictures these days?

**faint**
I think they are charging way too much for everything these days - at least when it comes to high school - they also are expecting too much like limos to the proms and stuff.
I'm SO glad OUR prom was canceled due to lack of interest at my high school (of course that was in 1971)

Yeah, we know this year is going to be expensive. Here in AL, we have to pay for some of our sons classes, which we never had to do in GA. I called about it to find out what was going on...lol. We also have to pay 40.00 for his diploma, the prom, the pictures, 50 for yearbook, and who knows what else. Our son in trying to find a job so he could help, but no luck so far.

Just so you know... its nothing new! 10 years ago when my daughter graduated and 4 years later for my son... those senior pictures are outrageously expensive and I think they know it but do it cause they can. Most will spend whatever for their kids senior pictures and since the schools themselves are in "cahoots" with them... they both do it cause they can. And since it is such as peer pressure thing among all the kids.. parents will do it for their sakes. IT is a horrible thing schools do, but they all do it and have been doing it and will never stop doing it.
When mine gradudated.. I took them to JC Penny and had a set of pictures made and they got lots of wallets and 4x6 to give to friends.. I got the 8x10 and then there were other sizes too.. and all for like $25. The only "school" picture they too was the one to be put in the year book andthat was taken with the rest and just said.. "this picture will also be in the year book" so they went and did the drill, but I never bought any of the pics.. couldn't afford them. Shame on schools!

That's even worse!!! They force you to pay a huge price even if you can't afford to! THat is just rotten. I'd a gone to the principle or something and thrown a fit... I just couldnt have afforded that, even the cheapest price - many can't in the bad economy.. they could at least do the senior pic in the year book and not have that associated with it. Just goes to show...schools don't care about their students... only about themselves. Glad mine are out. I spent years fighting self righteous things like this.. often got things done right, but still...I shouldn't have had to fight like that.

A person might be able to throw a fit and get the one in the yearbook without buying a package, but my understanding was it all went together. Ian said he thinks we'll have to pay for 4 of his classes this year too. He is in the honors program, and has to take certain classes to graduate with his diploma, but to take those classes you have to pay.
I called about it and they said it's cause kids don't have to be in the honors program, that they pay the teachers who do those classes more. Ian HAD to be in them cause the schools here are behind where we lived before. He retook some classes the first year he'd already done even in the honors program!
We don't like the school system here very well.

Yes, I thought they charged too much when I graduated in 1986. I guess they think they are doing you a favor by taking pictures for you so you don't have to and that service somehow warrants a heafty price tag. Class rings are also outrageous.

They charged way too much when I was a senior in 2002, so I'd imagine that yes, they are probably charging even more way too much now. It was a hard lesson for me and my mom, but the end story was DEMAND pricing before the photo shoot, no matter what they say. Alas.
