Do Converse All Star shoes last long?

I've never bought any converse shoes before but I've fallen in love with a few and might buy some tomorrow. The thing is, they are quite expensive at £30-£40 as I usually buy my shoes a lot cheaper than that. But if they are long lasting (good grip etc), I will feel OK paying that little bit extra as cheap shoes don't tend to last long. But there are cheap alternatives available!
So do you recommend me buying them or are they not worth the price?
Also, if you like, I'd love some recommendations of what colours/ styles I should check out.

there is a really good selection at www.lovelabels.co.uk there about £40 so not bad but not cheap, but even if you don't buy them there its probably a good start for you and then find them elsewhere cheaper ??? If you can???? . .. . . . or just buy them there and have them the next day LOL . . . the lazy option
