Online earnings and virus protection? - squishycash and other websites

Since joining various PTC and other websites that pay you to do things, especially squishy cash, I've noticed that they ask you to turn off a lot of security features on your web browser. The question is for people who use these sites frequently: have you noticed any problems with viruses since using these websites with disabled security features? Or have you just updated your antivirus software? I use avast, and I haven't had any problems with it, but I also have never opened my computer up to so many advertisers and cookies.
