I am a university students and my motherlanguage is not english, our language is totatlly different from english,so I think listen to music and wacth vedio is one of a good way to study it.
As english is the most popular language in the world,we can find so many things link to it,after I entered college ,our english teacher introduce many movies and TV shows, like shrek,Madagascar, friends, desperate housewives, from all these,I like friends best.At first I like Ross best, but after season 5,I think I love them all, they are so funny and kindhearted.
I hope someday I can have friends like them.

where are you from and what are you studying?my nother-toungue is not English either, despite the fact that i am an English teacher. I am from Jakarta,Indonesia.I started learning English with my own way when i was in senior high school.I bough entertainment magazines, folktales books and i read it loudly and when i found some words that i don`t know the meaning or difficult to pronounce,i looked up in dictionary. I also watch news from CNN,BBC and read english magazines and newspaper..and it works!it enhances your vocabulary, boradens your knowledge.as i teach from all levels,it is very important for me to keep up to date, from national issues until global crisis..my tip is start from something you like.If you like cooking, well, find books about cooking or culinary..TV shows and movie are fine too..

I learned in school english but it helped a lot listen to music and watch tv shows and movies to be better. It was really helpful for me. Now I can listen english movies when I'm eating and I don't have to look to the screen to read the subtitles. One thing that helped me a lot too is surfing the net, I searched lots of things in english and started to know more things.
I've lots of different favourite tv shows but Friends it's definately one of my favourites :D Chandler is my favourite but it's hard to choose between them. I started to like Ross after the first seasons.

My mother language is not English too. I think that watching English speaking shows really improve my English. I think by watching the shows improve my listening most. The first English shows I watched is Friends which was recommended by my brother. At first I can't understand many words they said and I read the subtitle instead. When I read subtitle and listen to the shows, I can also learn some vocabulary. It really does improves little of my English although my English is still bad.

Hi,i am a chinese too.I've been working for a few years.Once i was a secondary school student ,i considered english as my favorite subject.I enjoyed the feeling when i read english text loudly.Occasionally,i would think if only i could become an english teacher in the future.Unfortunately, for some reason,i chose to enter a technical school. Two years ago,i started to learn english by myself.Despite my english is still poor,i am happy cause i believe my english level will gradually improve if i work hard on it.
I like Friends as well, but it is a bit difficult for me to understand every line.So i decided to watch some simple movies ,such as Beauty and the beast ,a cartoon. And i aslo enjoy learning and singing english songs.I think reading ,writing, speaking ,listening are essential practices to master english.

I never took a course in English and tried to learn by my self since 12. First I would only rental movies with subtittles, but it was VHS times so I would glue a tape over the subtitles once I watched the movie once, I would watch 8 times the same movie, being boring or not just to learn wath I knew the meaning.
And then DVD times came and it was an English party to me, I love X-Files and Friends, I always watch movies and series with the subtitles in English so not only I can train my hearing but my reading.
