What types of food do you enjoy eating that your friends and family think are odd or disgusting? Some of mine are: gherkins(pickles), olives and tofu (as im vegetarian).

I think the one thing that most of my family and friends think is strange that I eat are lemons with salt..I'll either sit down and eat a fresh lemon or I will buy lemon juice add salt and freeze it for a lemon slat slushy mmmm :)

Lemons and salt .. what an interesting combination. Although it might just taste alright. I loved lemons when I was really young (4-6 years old) and I can remember going walking around eating lemons and people being shocked as lemons have quite a strong acidic taste. Perhaps the salt that you have with yours neutralizes the strong acidic taste of the lemon. Anyhow, thankyou for sharing :-)

i love oxtail soup so much. And my hubby, and also my two daughters think it's disgusting. But I don't care. The thing is they won't even try it, and I keep telling them " watch, one day if you willing to try it, you might fall in love with it ! hahahaha

Oxtail soup, what an interesting dish. Although coincidentally my dad used to eat oxtail soup. Who knows perhaps one day your daughters and husband might try it.. you could always make some and tell them its mushroom soup. Just joking. Thanks for responding

Yes you need a strong stomach to try traditional delicacies. However, if you enjoy the dish do not worry what your parents think and enjoy it. Thanks for answering and sharing about your country with me. :-)

I like Balut on a stew. Balut is a Filipino delicacy simply a boiled duck egg. Its my thing to eat and my parents always kick me all the way out our house. They consider me inhuman as of eating it.

Hello Tabatha, things that I may eat which are considered perfectly normal in other parts of the world are looked upon with horror by my friends here who just find anything not totally Greek very strange. So if I produce mint sauce to go on lamb chops, instead of the obligatory lemon and rigano, they stare in amazement at this strange no doubt posinous thing. Tartare sauce for fish had a similar reaction. They comment when I put pepper in fish soup and tell me I will have ruined it, they look on aghast if basil goes on my tomatoes. They actually think it is odd, and odd enough to be remarked upon by everyone in the taverna.

Hi tabatha, we also have lots of savoury pies, like the spanakopita you mentioned which is spinach and feta, and tiropita, which is cheese pie. Lots of cultures have savoury pies, I didn't know that Americans didn't have them, they must have some in a country that size. I like Greek food except for the inevitable lemon and oregano on everything. In this area it lacks a bit of spice though and variety. Unlike other countries the Greeks haven't really embraced foreign foods so we are lacking in Chinese or Indian places to indulge in. My favourite Greek foods from this area would be marinated anchovies, saganaki, olives, mixed salad (but not Greek salad) with grilled octopus.

Hello :-) I actually quite like Greek food. I have family friends who are Greek and would always get me to try out new foods like Spankakopita. You have brought up quite an interesting point things that seem ''normal'' in some parts of the world seem odd in others. E.g Here most people like to put tomato sauce on their chips but this would be deemed strange in other countries. Many New Zealanders also like savoury pies but Americans think its odd having any other flavour pie but fruit. Then again the sound of their sweet pumpkin pie sounds a bit odd. What is your favourite traditional Greek food?
