Hi friends. I have a hobby of collecting coins. Specially old Indian coins as I am from India. The coin that I like the most in my collection was issued in 1835 and it was the first time the britishers issued coins in India. How many of you share this hobby of coin collection and what are your favourite coins among your own collection. Please share your views about this.

I collect wheathead pennies and have only gone back as far as 1929. I wouldn't even know where to get a coin from the 1800s. I have always wondered about those offerred on ebay, but am always afraid I would get ripped off, because I truly don't know how to put a value on the coins or how to recognize a counterfeit.
I wish they had a book in the dummies series about collecting coins.

I have never bought any coins on ebay either. The best source for me was my grand father and other elder people in my house. During old times in some parts of India people used to put some coins inside walls while constructing houses. And now when we renovate those old houses many time we can find those old coins.

Why do they put coins in the wall? Was it superstition?
Have you ever gone to an antiquiary for coins? Where can someone with the word sucker glued on her forehead find a safe place to get coins? I should really put some googling effort into coin collecting.

yes even I am curious to know what are these special occasional days. Are these some specific days for coin exhibitions or something.
