A friend on here said she did really well losing weight on a Special K diet, and I know lots of people feel soothed by a bedtime snack of a bowl of cereal. I have also been told by some health professionals that oats will help lower cholesterol. For some people it works better than drugs. I have been eating Cheerios at bedtime for a week or so. Not losing weight, but still feeling good about the cereal. The last two nights, I was so tired I did not eat my Cheerios, and both times I woke up incredibly early in the morning and could not get back to sleep. 4:15 one morning, 3 a.m. today. I have wondered if that may be part of the cause. So tonight, I am eating my Cheerios. Do you eat a bedtime snack? Do you do it for a reason? What do you snack on at bedtime?

For many it will surely make them sleep, unless of course you are weird and it causes paradoxical excitation. When Larry was ill he took that regularly, until it started getting him up every twenty minutes, causing him to call me.We missed some sleep there for awhile.

My doc suggested it because I was waking up in the middle of the night - and not going back to sleep I also take some naproxen and an acid reducer (for my reflux)

I didn't used to, but my husband eats a bunch of cookies, etc. So that makes me want to eat. He Likes Cheerios and I've tried to get him to eat cereal every night. The lowest cholesterol test he ever got back was the night he ate a batch of oatmeal cookies!

Yeah, if I had cookies in the house I would be snarfing them down. The nurse that did our training at work is a really brittle diabetic, has been for years. Her cholesterol got bad, and she could not take statins or plavix they did not work for her. She went on the cheerios/oatmeal regimen and her cholesterol was normal for the first time in five years. I have thought about making some healthy homemade oatmeal cookies, though.

I am in love with no bake cookies that have oatmeal, peanut butter, and chocolate.

I like having a bedtime snack too. Usually its a bowl of cereal or ice cream, whatever I have. I like cereal better at night.

Thats too bad you can't eat ice cream at night. I just got done making some homemade chocolate ice cream, I think I will go test it out, gotta make sure its not poison.

Yep, or cereal sprinkled on top of ice cream. Actually, icecream at bed time is one thing that is guaranteed to give me reflux. I have to eat it pretty early in the evening.

I always have something to eat just before bedtime as I have a low blood sugar problem..to not eat I would feel rather sick and lightheaded when I'd wake up. Really depends what I'm in the mood for to eat before going to bed..sometimes a salad, sometimes a grilled cheese sandwich, and yes, cereals...in the wintertime I love having a bowl of oatmeal with sliced up apples, raisins, and a dash of cinnamon

The oatmeal is yummy and another good cholesterol fighter, blood sugar maintainer. I had been told about that by a diabetic educator.

Hiya GardenGerty, Normally what I do is to take around 1-2 hotdogs and just boil them away to eat after. This works for me and does quench my hunger each time. If I am not satisfied, like on some really hungry nights, I will just call Mc'Donald's delivery. I really have irregular eating habits. I might not be eating at all during the day and can eat a lot at night.

I eat yogurt and a peanut butter sandwich before going to bed..then I brush my teeth and apply moisturizer in my face..Then before sleeping..I do praying..It helps to have a calming mind..I think of bedtime snacks helps in getting a good sleep..Your intake of cereals is good for the body as it help in making you feel sleepy after eating it..usually I eat popcorn while watching my favorite nigh time television series..then read a books..this is really helps like a ritual. You could not really get away from it as you are already get used to it..doing it every nights just like a ritual..

Yes, prayer is a wonderful help. I have also been praying as I walk in the early morning. I sleep best if I have also taken a shower before bed. In fact, I seem to really miss it if I do not. The yogurt and peanut butter sandwich are both good choices.

Taking bath before bed keep you feel refresh..but be sure it dries before you sleep..it seem bad to sleep while hair still wet..Prayer soothes a stressful mind and with a quiet evening it calms all the senses..Have a happy slumber..

I still prefer by Special K for breakfast but for a snack before bedtime I prefer a small glass of milk and a banana.bBananas are known for promoting sleep, and research shows that potassium is an important mineral for deep sleep

Bananas are high in several minerals, noted for the potassium of course, but also magnesium. Hubby will eat two a day. It is good to eat nutritiously before you sleep. Sometimes I will have a banana with my cereal.

I used to snack before bedtime but not anymore. I was trying to figure out why I was gaining so much weight when I wasn't eating alot. Doctor told me to cut out the bedtime snacking and I'll stop gaining weight. Well, he was right. Now I gotta big job ahead of me to lose it all. I usually just drink a glass of water or milk before bed. In the winter, the milk is warmed in the micro.

The milk is a good thing. It was suggested to keep the bedtime snack at about 100 calories, but I know I do more than that.I am just recently getting up and walking and/or doing housework in the morning. I seem to have a little more energy with the small snack. I gained weight before I started doing this. I would get hungry or bored and eat all kinds of crud. With the plan of just cereal and milk and a few nuts, I do not binge as much.

I have the worst case of the munchies at this time of night. If I can get to sleep, it isn't bad, but if I'm up, I can't help but be hungry. My husband eats a bowl of raisin bran every night before bed. He says it helps his digestive system stay regular. So yes, I think that the cheerios are a great bedtime snack!

That would probably work as well. I was told that oats specifically reduce cholesterol. Mine is not dangerously high, but is higher than I like. Of course exercise helps reduce cholesterol as well.

hi gardengerty yes as a diabetic if I dont have my bedtime snack I sometimes get low blood sugar which is or can be dangerous. cereal is good and oats are really good for you as a whole grain and so nutritious. sometimes I have half of a meat sandwich or cheese sandwich but it must combine protein and carbs too. good luck and happy snacking and good sleeping, hatley here.

My friend who is pre diabetic had emphasized that, making sure you had carbs and protein and a little fat for the best sleep. My client who is a diabetic has a scheduled evening snack.

We eat dinner so late usually around 7:00 so that we can all eat together as a family so I usually don't eat anything after dinner unless I eat dessert. If I do eat dessert it will be one of Weight Watchers 2 point ice cream treats. I have been eating Multi Grain Cheerios for breakfast several days a week since I have been on weight watchers. I can eat twice as much Multi Grain cheerios then other cereals for the same amount of points. So I am eating my Cheerios too.

Typically no, but lately yes. I dont normally eat at bed time becuse for me I find that eating at bed time gives me digestion problem's at night so usually I stop eating after dinner, but lately I've been braking my no eating at night rule becuse of stress reasons, but I will be going back to my no eating at bedtime rule soon. But as for eating cereal I love eating cereal, and I do believe that certain brands of cereal have health benefit's and some can be helpful for losing wight, but they have to be eaten along with doing other things like exercising and added with a proper diet plan, like take the special k diet plan for example special k diet has a verity of other food products and meal plans, and I think if fallowed correctly that diet can work for almost anyone who is committed to losing wight.

Can you tell a difference in how well you sleep? I did not stick with oats like I should have. I still have cholesterol problems. I think I need to make some oatmeal muffins.

Have you tried rye bread @GardenGerty ? I've been eating at least one slice of rye bread with my dinners. No, I've never actually paid any attention to that. Some nights I sleep really well and others I can't get sleepy.

Lately I have not had any Cheerios in our house, but maybe should consider doing so. I know a Bowl of cheerios is a Good breakfast or bedtime snack and quite healthy for me as well, but did get tired of it, so lately I have been eating a lot of Raisin Bran instead.

I eat at night, not cheeerios though. I prefer popcorn or pepperoni or ice cream. If I am hungry during the night, I grab a snack. I usually wake up to pee anyhow. Being hungry will wake me up.

If I ate those at bed time, I would have really bad reflux, then I would wake up, go pee, but not grab a snack because that would involve my going downstairs. Instead, I drink water, then get up and go to pee again.

It is true that if you have a full stomach, you will sleep better. I don't know how that works though. I personally do not snack before sleeping. I find that if I do, I actually start gaining weight. Not sure how that works either.

I love Special K with strawberries. But lately, I've been eating plain corn flakes at night for a snack. I don't put sugar or anything on them, just milk. I have lost about 14 lbs, but I don't attribute that to either of the cereals. I just decided to cut back on my eating and, as a result, I have lost weight. It's slow, and, right now, I've come to a stand still, but I will keep doing what I've been doing. I also do not eat very much bread.

I don't have a bedtime snack but sometimes I do eat a bowl of cereal for supper if I am having a particular late night coming home or if I am simply too tired to think about fixing dinner that night.
