One tip I read many years ago about writting stories was to make sure that you write something every single day, whether it's a line, a paragraph or a full chapter.
It's best to write everyday as then it keeps the story flowing and when read back actually makes sense and doest feel if the ending was just tagged on top take up space.

Thanks.
Another tip is to actually know what you are writing about. This does not just mean reading other books within the genre but know your characters.
Write down the idea for the story, write down the characters with a synopsis of them and their background and plan your story roughly so that it has a start, a middle and an end.
Another thing that lets stories down is details. For example your main character is a doctor. This means you have to read up on medical practitions otherwise when you talk of something to do with their worklife it will be very lacking in details and quite possibly wrong. So have characters doing jobs etc that you already know and have it set somewhere you know. Think of Stephen King, everything is set in and around Maine where he himself lives.

I have been writing some stories since I was a kid up to now. But I don't think I did it in a professional way, it's only my hobby. I joined odesk and I passed the test in creative writing fortunately. You can join odesk and take some tests to test your writing skills. Don't worry it's free. Odesk is a global service marketplace for small and medium sized business to hire, manage, and pay remote freelancers or teams.

I would suggest you to join an online community for writers. I've known one its www.writing.com the membership is free, here you can publish your work, receive feedback from fellow writers and readers as well. Its a perfect place to display your work and they provide creative writing tools. I've learned a lot from this site.
Good Luck!

Hello. Writing is my favorite hobby too, since my high school years. But, I don't write stories. I write articles, commentaries, reviews. I am writing these online once in a while when I have the time to do it. It is very good you are writing stories and poems.

The best thing to do is write something every single day. It doesn't matter if it is one line, a paragraph or a full chapter. If you write everyday the story will flow better, make more sense and won't feel rushed when it is read back.
One problem people have is actually sitting down and writing, so set yourself a target to write a minimum of so many words everyday and make time when you can concentrate and be yourself in your writing.
Good luck

I have written poems, blogs and also stories.
I am not sure if you mean professional or not, but I think you can take up some creative writing classes or something to get to learn it professionally.
As a hobby you can start posting your stories on your blog or website and get friends n family to comment on it, so that you know how you are doing.
Read good authors in order to understand their style of writing. You can definitely learn that way. For eg. if you want to describe how sexy a lady was or how tragic the incident was, you can see how others describe it and how you describe it and you would learn to write more effectively.
