Hi Everybody
I am interested to know the system of governance in Philippines. India follows the system of Democracy since its Independence on 15th August, 1947. India is a federal union consists of Twenty eight states and seven Union Territores. India follows the Parliamentary system and the Parliament are elected by the Citizen. All citizen those who completed 18 years irrespective of their gender can vote in the Election. The term of an elected government is 5 years. So there will be an election once in 5 years.
India is considered as the largest Democracy in the world. The Head of the State is the President of India and the Head of the governmentis Prime Minister. The central cabinet is the council of Ministers headed by the Prime Minister advises the President in administration.
India follows the multi party system. There are a lot of Political Parties in India.
The Popular among them are the Indian National Congress(I) and Bharathiya Janatha Party. There are many other parties which doesnt have a national presence. Some political parties own and run by Individuals. Presently UPA (United Progressive Alliance) headed by Indian National Congress ruling the country. Mrs.Prathibha Patil is the President of india and the Prime Minister is Mr. Manmohan Singh.
What is the system of Governance in Philippines ? How many political parties are there in Philippines?

Hello there!
I am a Filipino and resides in Mindanao through out my life. Well, Philippines is a republic with a democratic form of government. We have been largely colonized by two countries United States and Spain, that's why most of our culture are influenced by two nations. Since the early part of the 20th century, Philippines endured many political conflicts then Japan invaded us during World War II setting a puppet Japanese government. We regained our freedom when General Douglas McArthur of the United States rescued us from the claws of the Japanese.
In 1972 the entire country was put into the iron hands of the military through the declaration of Martial Law by the dictatorship of Marcos, it was the assassination of Senator Ninoy Aquino in 1983 that fueled people to revolt, in 1986 democracy was successfully by Ninoy's widow President Cory Aquino, the Philippines breathe new meaning of freedom until now.
Philippines is a unitary presidential constitutional republic which the President functions both as head of state, head of government and commander-in-chief of the armed forces. There is one autonomous region in our country named ARMM (autonomous region of muslim mindanao) which governed their own laws and free from the national government. The elected president and vice president has a six-year term in the presidency, he or she resides with his/her family in the MalacaƱang Palace, across the Pasig river, during the duration of his or her term.
The bicameral congress is composed by the House of Senate (elected by the entire population) and the House of Representatives (elected by district around the Philippines), the judicial power is vested in the Supreme court of the final arbiter of the law and headed by the chief justice. The country has no states but it is divided into region, provinces, district, municipal towns and barangays. The delegation of responsibilities in provinces, towns and barangays are handed down to a governor, mayor and barangay captain.
Philippines has a shaky politics and with many political parties: PDP-Laban, Lakas NUCD, Nationalist party, Liberal Party, United Opposition among others. Legislatures seemed couldn't understand each other that they always argue with so many things until the national economy heavily suffer so much affecting many lives. Despite unprecedented effort by the government to improve our economy, we are still stuck being one of the third world countries struggling so hard.
Currently, our President is Mrs. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, daughter of former Philippine president Diosdado Macapagal, she is an economist. Her Vice president is Noli De Castro, former Broadcast journalist.

Like what was posted by learn2earn, the Philippines has a democratic form of government. It is specifically a "republic" i.e., power resides in each citizen who elects people to "represent" them in governing or running the nation, its provinces, and other local government units.
The difference with the US or with India is that the Philippines is NOT a federation of states.
