Good morning, I think it's neat what some people called their grandparents & love that my grandson came up w/his own name for me. I was calling myseld grandma to him & for some reason he turned it into BOBO. One set of my grandparents names were hall & alberta, we called them hallie & alberta.the other set, my grandfather's name was ROY BALLOW, SO WE CALLED HIM BY BOTH NAMES ROYBALLOW, BECAME ONE NAME, LOL & WE CALLED MY GRANDMOTHER BIGMAMA. HOW ABOUT Y'ALL? LET ME HEAR SOME CUTE NAMES & STORIES.

Good morning to you too. LOL. BoBo is my dogs name LOL. That is cute. I always called mine grandma and grandpa. I do not have any grandchildren yet so no telling what they will call me LOL. My grandparents names on my dads side was Elfreda and Weaver, real names. On my moms side, was Marie and Oscar. Kind of weird names other than Marie.

There is nothing weird or unique with the way we called our grandparents. we call them by their name and adding grandma and grandpa in the beginning. In my father's side we call our grandmother as grandma with her name. My grandmother call our grand grandmother and father as mama and papa and we used to call it that way too.

What do you mean of unique because i have grandparents? Of course we have our grandparents.Without them we don't have parents. Maybe, because they are still alive. Got lucky to be with my grandmother in my father's side and a grandfather to my mother's side.

We call our grand parents lolo and lola, during our times in the province mommy and daddy for parents are just for the elite or super rich, mama and papa are for the middle income...Now my grandbaby is calling me mommy, that's why I am much elated and feel rich or belong to the elites..(lol) but I find it cute, everytime the little girl address me as mommy....

Hello friend, Here in our country we didn't call someone older than us by their names. We respect older most especially our relatives like grandmother or grandfather. We call grandmother LOLA or LOLO for grandfather. We value good custom and we say something bad to old person that is against good custom and moral...

I don't know what customs and or tradition do follow in life but I think you know about the bible though about respecting parents and other people that is older than us... Take care and have a great day! thanks for your reply

Funny you should bring this up. When my brother and I were small, both sets of grandparents insisted we call them "mama sue or daddy jim" except for my good grandaddy who let us call him grandaddy :) As we got older, we started to call my good grandma, who had been mama sue, turned into grandma too. The other set, remained the same----always but wasn't close to them My good grandma's mother was always called, "big mother or even big mama like your grandmother bigmama !! As you know I have three grandsons, the youngest calls me Montana Nana LOL The other two , cuz they have multiple "step" grandparents----just call me grandma quita. It's ok, as long as they call me to supper LOL

I think in all parts of the country people call their grandparents about the same things. Being from the south could have a lot to do with it tho ! Anyways, we are now the grandparents and let our grandkids call us what they think is best. Later, quita88

I didn't see my dad's parents very often, so I never had names for each set of grandparents other than somehow I started calling my mom's dad "Pop". My 7 year old niece has come up with names for her grandparents. She calls her mom's parents Grammy & Papa. She calls my parents Grams & Grandpoo. I don't know where she got the "grandpoo" from. I think it was a variation of some TV show she saw. My brother was never married to my niece's mom, so when her mom did marry, there was a big fiasco when the mom wanted her to call her husband daddy. My brother said that he is her daddy & it would be different if he wasn't in her life. I told them if they just left her alone, that she would come up with some sort of name for him. I think it was so forced on her by our side that he isn't her daddy & by that side to call him daddy that she never formed a bond with him & just calls him by his first name. And now the poor dear has become resentful, even at this young age, because she now has 2 younger half siblings that she is expected to help care for. And I've totally gotten off the subject here.........

Wow! What a lot for a little kid to comprehend. It's not up to her to help with the little ones. Her Mom needs to let her be a kid. Maybe she needs to move in with her favourite Aunt for a while, and get spoiled!

you said it! Her & I were talking about babies the other day & I said something to her about she might have babies of her own one day. She told me she didn't think so because she thinks it will be too hard after all she does to help her mom with her (half) sister & (half) brother. I thought that was a pretty sad thing to hear from a not quite 8 year old's mouth. Although, once she gets interested in boys, it might be good birth control! ;) Poor little girl has the flu right now :(

Just found this ytoday going thru freinds list to add to her comments and see how she is doing on here and looks like she is doing fine as she got best results lol. AS for me on grand parents names/ I called the woman that rasied my mom grandma Wilson and him Grandpa Wilson. But she was really my great Aunt. In my grandparents come to think about it I called them grand what ever thier last name was. Real original huh? My kids call my mom grandma but the rest of her grand kids call her Grammy. I had first kids and she never said she wanted to be called grammy. So when my kids called her she knew for sure who they were even with thier Southern accent lol. Several of my grand kids just call me grandma but my grand daughter that I have here calles me grandmawmaw

We called my mom's folks, Mum mum and Pop pop. We called dad's Neil (he was a step-father) and Nana. My mother went by Grammie. I don't have kids so I don't have grandkids. Now, my roomie's folks go by Dad dad (from Dad's dad) and Grandma. Now that they are great grandparents, she's trying to go by the German version of grand mother - can't remember it tho.

Hmmm... We call our grandparents "Granny" and "Grandpa" while the other sets in Chinese "AngKong" and "A-Ma". =) It may not sound weird to most but in our country the usual would be "Lolo" and "lola", so that's pretty weird when friends hear us calling our grandparents that way.

hi antiquelady, I dont have any grandparents now as they all have gome to heaven. While they were still with us i used to call my maternal grandfather as Nana and grandmother as Nani.. ( nana means father of mom and nani means mother of mom in hindi ) and same way i would call my paternal grandfather Dada (meaning dad's father) and Dadi ( meaning dad's mom) . Most of the children in Hindi speaking areas of India call them like this only. No as a respect we never call anyone elder to us by name so even friends mom is aunty and things like this but would definitely never call grandfather by name or nick name.

When I was a kid, my dad's parents were Gran and Paw and my maternal grandparents were Maw Maw and Paw Paw. Now that I have kids of my own each of the grandparents came up with their own name they wanted to be called. My dad and his wife are Nana and Pa Pa Joe, my mom and her husband are Nana and Grandpa. My husband's dad and his wife are Granny Joyce and Grandad, and his mom is Granny. My husband's mom has a boyfriend but we don't call him anything because he said something really mean about my daughter and I wanted to kill him. So now we just don't talk. It's better than being in jail for murder. lol.

In Denmark they have a great way of distinguishing which side of the family the grandparents are on. Mor = Mom, and Far = Dad. So Mormor and Morfar are Mom's parents, and Farmor and Farfar are Dad's parents. My Mom is Danish so we had a Mormor and Morfar, but Dad's side is Canadian, so we just call them Grandma and Grandpa. I married a much older man (I'm 27 and he's 63) and he has grandchildren. LOL They get a kick out of calling me Grandma, and I get a kick out of being called Grandma at my age. Of course one of the daughters adopted a little girl at a really young age, and that girl grew up and had a baby in her teens, so now hubby and I are great-grandparents. I'm a 27 year old Great-grandma, and my parents are great-grandparents, and my living grandparents are great-great-grandparents! LOL

On my mother's side of the family it was the practice to call the grandmothers by their first names. I called my grandmother Kathleen and my grands call me Cynthie. My sister's grands call her Gill. When my eldest Grand daughter wants to tease me she calls me 'Granny', but it is Cynthie the rest of the time. Or Cynthie -winthie. You now how kids like to rhyme words. I love the explanation of how you called your grandparents names.
