History records that there was polygamy before the coming of Islam. problems associated with polygamy in the nation earlier, Islam does not delete them. Islam explains the purpose of the peak of a marriage in which polygamy is also one of the studies. Problems in polygamy, Islam does not dwell only let what has happened before, but as usual, provide some of the rules of Islam. Terms and certain limitations have been prepared. Of course, this is not another to cope with the social impact will occur. And it's all because of the law is the Most Knowing and the Wise. I want to know your opinion about poligamy.

Yes, it is true that polygamy was prevalent in society long before Islam came. Islam rather tried to help the hapless women by restricting the number of wives a man could have to only four…whereas men had as many wives as they wanted. However, this was OK and necessary in the turbulent ages of medieval times but in today’s society this is grossly out of place. All other religions and society have abolished polygamy, only Islam is continuing with its medieval practices.

In the modern world we come across many cases where man is hving mistress along with a legally married wife and children. However, the second woman has no legal recognition, the right for inheritance or maintenance. The judiciary, restricting polygamy in the pretext of safeguarding the dignity of women, allows the man to carry on with such relationship without violating the law. In contrast, Islam permits polygamy but restricts such relationship outside the marriage. A vast majority of people perceive the divine Islamic law, permitting polygamy as a rule for everyone to have a second wife. In reality, it is an exception to the rule of normal conjugal relationship, when dealing with a polygamous situation in which the second woman is entitled for legal recognition, right of inheritance and maintenance.

nakeebi, you have a point there. The poor second woman goes through hell, and creates hell for others as well, due to her social stigma and financial dependence. It would be a big lie to say such things dont exist. They do. Just because law and religion says polygamy is wrong, does not mean that it has left the society or religion. Sad...comparatively, Islam seems more honest.
