there is brown rice, red rice and even violet rice.i have tried them all. i eat them at first because i love seeing the colored rice served on my table . i have stopped eating white rice for now. At first i didn't like the taste of the brown rice, then we tried to make the boiled brown rice into fried rice . and it taste really better. we just add some seasoning sprinkeld into it. the seasoning we added are sold locally and it is Magic Sarap(delicious), a brand of seasoning for frying foods and for other soups and other cooking.
And so i feel that i don't hungry often ever since i eat brown rice every day. sometimes i feel that i can go without eating lunch and dinner and just have my breakfast of brown rice and some fried fish or fish in soup.
Because of my love of this brown rice, i become more motivated to be more health conscious and to lose weight. i do cook tofu, i stopped eating meat, pork or beaf, i usually eat fish only. i rarely eat chicken and i rarely eat on fast food any more. i just feel that my brown rice tastes much better than the food i eat from fast food restaurants. and it actually saved me a lot of money because of this .
So i ask all of you people. Have you tried eating brown rice? Did yuo like it.

I have never tried the colored variety of rice. I am planning to try it but it seems the cost is a bit high for me to afford it. But it is true that eating these brown rice is healthier than eating the white variety. I hope you could continue making that a habit.

i also rarely eat in fastfood. not because i want to save on money. but because i feel that i rather eat healthy foods. i noticed that i am getting fat and my waistline is getting bigger each time i eat outside. and i feel that it is taking too much of my health.

yesterday i bought a pack of brown rice. abuot 2 kilos. it cost me about $2.20. yest it is expensive. but if we can money eating out on fastfood why can't spend some money on buying this and actually cheaper compared to the price of fast food. like if you buy chao fan in Chowking. it cost about 70 pesos. it is just one bowl of rice and there is no drink yet included. imagine if you just use that to buy brown rice you can actually cook that 2 kilos for a week or more. depending how much you it. and it is worth to spend it is good for our health. it is safer and better to cook our own food.

I've had brown rice many times before and I do like it, but I prefer wild rice more. It has a number of different flavours to it and is very healthy. Brown rice is definitely filling and it's far better for you than white rice too. It sounds as if you're eating a lot of really healthy foods here so I wish you success with it!

the jasmine rice being sold in teh supermarket is not as good as the jasmine rice that we got from other country,
anyways, i don't remember seeing that wild rice. i am sure there is a wild rice also in the market . i gonna look have a look at it closely. it does not look like a good tasting rice to me judging by the way it looks on the picture i have seen.

what is a wild rice. i have not heard of that before. i hope we have that here also. i don't know if all white rice are devoid of nutrients. i remember that jasmine rice as very delicious white rice. unlike most white rice variety we had around here. actually jasmine rice was like the kind of rice we had here decades ago when our country was still better off we can buy jasmine rice cheaply. it awas abundant here before as we plant them before but now we don't have them grown locally in our fields. jasmine rice we have now in the supermarket are imported from other countries now. and it is very freaking expensive. 1 kilo of jasmine rice will be about $13. imagine that.
anyways, when i don't feel like eating rice, i just eat quaker oats now. thankfully i am loving this healthy foods. hope it will be that always from now on.

Hi hotsummer, as far as I know, brown rice as well as the red rice are more nutritious than the ordinary white rice. Yeah, this unpolished rice contains more vitamin B and plant cellulose. It’s quite good to our health if taking brown rice or red rice as our daily meals Brown rice and red rice are available in all the hypermarkets and the rice shops here. They are rather expensive than the white rice.
For the sake of healthy we have tried to take both the brown and red rice before. But we feel that they are not as delicious as the white rice. We then try to add a little by a little to the white rice gradually. After accustomed with the texture of it, we then mix the white rice and the coarse rice with the same amount respectively. We are used to take this beneficial mixture as our staple food daily at the moment. We take it together with some delicious dishes prepared.
We do take more vegetables instead of meat as our daily dishes. We would take fish twice or trice weekly as it's quite nutritious as well
Happy posting

i feel it depends on the variety of rice. not all white rice taste great. some taste better than others. like here in my country. there are so many kinds of white rice. even the same kind of white rice like we have rice called sinandomeng. not all sinandomeng taste the same. sometimes it depends how it was grown. the soil where it was sown. all different kind of factors.
and same with the brown rice. some kinds taste awful while others taste acceptable. like now i have finally found the brown rice i will like to eat more. i make sure i buy the same brand next time in the hypermarket.

We have eaten brown and colored rices for some time now.Any rice that takes 40 to 45 minutes to cook is a healthy one. I also do it for health reasons they are a great grain to get into you and serve as a side dish. As for fast food, I have not eaten any in over 12 years or more .Anything that I cannot read the contents of passes my lips. I try to live as simple as possible with whole foods. You will not only benefit from flavor but the health benefits are great also.My husband had a few issues starting with his health high glucose levels to fatty liver.They are all gone ,with no meds. since switching back to the basics.

Good luck on turning to nature, you will feel much better in the long run.
Any rice worth cooking will take 40 to 45 minutes, except wild that takes up to a hr. the longer the grain is the better the rices are for you. Just PM me if you have any questions.We eat to live not live to eat! Just as it should be for a well balanced diet.

i totally believe in what you have said. we eat to live and not live to eat. that is what we should remember in choosing the kind of foods we ate. we should be aware that the foods we eat should be healthy and will help us live life in great health and so we can take advantage of the beautiful things life can offer us.

i am glad to know there are still people who practices healthy living. when i was young i wished that i will live eating healthy foods but was not able to do it. cause of the temptation of delicious foods and the pull of fastfoods over me was strong back then. but now very much older at 37, i am more determined and more motivated to live to what i planned or believe life should be lived. i love reading healthy living books.
anyways, i do noticed that cooking brown rice takes longer than white rice. do shrea some of your healthy eating habits. i am just starting right now. with brown rice for the start. hopefully i will learn more healthy recipes. but i don't want to sacrifice the taste cause the good taste keeps me motivated to stick to it. if the food will be so awful no matter how good or healthy it is i just don't know if i will be able to stick with it.

yeah that is brown rice alright. but i believe that one has the skin on it that why it is really too brown. what i say is rice without the husk or skin already. anyways, hope you will see them soon on the supermarkets. it is great to have them at home.

i have never tried it because in india most of the time people eat white rice. but in our state we eat chepati, we eat less rice may be twice in a month. i would love to go for brown rice if i will get the chance but i will not buy it for my self personally bcoz i do not just eat rice. it creates hardness in my stomach and i feel very heavy while eating it.
@hotsummer (13837)

that is good that you rarely eat rice. i think it is also healthy not to eat rice we can maintain our normal weight. but brown rice is okay but white is not good. i have not heard of chepati. but it sure sounds healthy food. is this chepati more like a thin pizza dough and dark in color.

I eat lot of rice with different colors. i like them serve warm or mixed with marinated ingredients of chicken, pork, beef and tuna fillet then with fresh vegetables cut thinly then fried. They are delicious and smell good..This enough to make a hungry souls drool with a lot of gusto to savor on the flavors..Brown rice taste good and it taste like any ordinary rice with only the colors they differ with other rice and with the smell..

I think so, but that was long time ago. It was aromatic and I love it when they cooked it in jaggery or in our version we call it panutsa. Anyway, thats what I can remember in brown rice, it is good for biko. But i haven't tasted violet rice nor the red rice.
I have seen an equivalent brown rice here. But it was so heavy on my stomach. It feels like I am bloated after eating it. And it was really nutritious as the old folks say.
They used to boil it and drink the soup and its good to heal the sick, specially those who have mild fever. I guess that was the difference of a brown rice here, than the brown rice we have back home. Happy Mylotting.

panutsa sounds like a filipino word. anyways, i looked up your profile it says india. but i am sure you are filipino. do we use it for biko also. i have not known that. i thought it was the red sugar that makes the biko have that brown color. i don't eat biko that often.

yeah it does have taste. but it actually depends on what kind of brown rice you bought. there are different kind of product or brands of brown rice sold in the market. some taste better than others. the first i bought has quite bad taste that was why i do make the rice into fried rice before i eat. but lately i bought a new kind of brown rice. and the taste is just fine i can eat it as boiled rice without making it into a fried rice. and so now i enjoy it now more.

I have tried brown rice and I do prefer to eat it as opposed to white rice. I don't really eat a lot of rice, but I will choose brown when I have the opportunity. understand it ahs lots more nutrients. But there are some "white" rices that retain their nurtitive values. But the plain ole white rice does have as many as the brown from what I understand.
@hotsummer (13837)

yeah it does have both nutritional value as long as it is unpolished. it does not matter what color. but white rice here is white mainly because they have been milled. if they are not they would have at least some streak of brown color on it. so white rice here means devoid of those nutrients we all need. since i eat brown rice i eat less of rice too mainly because i don't get hungry much as often when i eat white rice. i feel full when i eat brown rice. and so though it is more expensive that white rice here but it does save me cause i become more health conscious and i can now say no to fast food or processed foods.

hmm, i'm not very familiar with the brown rice u mentioned above. but maybe i've seen it in some supermarket or eat in some meal somewhere.
when as a child in the countryside, we ate white rice three meals, breakfast, lunch and supper, and never got tired of it, but just changed the food with it meal after meal.

yes many times.one of our relatives said that eating brown rice is good for health.
actually the polished rice we generally eat is devoid of many nutrients,because of many processing steps.brown rice has few processing steps and thus many nutrients are still present.so it is healthy.
but its taste is not as good as compared to normal white rice.also it is a little bit watery.
@hotsummer (13837)

that is why i like making it into a fried rice to make it taste better. fried rice always taste better than the boiled rice.
