When I was a kid, I hated eating all kinds of vegetables, everytime when I see mom cooked vegetables, I felt digusted and wanted to avoid eating them but mom would just put it in my bowl and made us eat them... especially carrots, peas, celery... yuck yuck... Besides that I hated fish, pork, bread etc... so I was very skinny when I was a kid because I always didn't eat right. But I had a big change when my teenage time started, I pretty much ate all the stuff that I didn't like and found they actually tastsed good! Now I am not picky anymore and can accept lots of new food as well. What about you? It is good to be not too too picky so we can have all different nutrients of the food. Wath ado you think? Are you picky about food?

Yes it is good to be not so picky about food but it is not so easy to explain this to children. Even I was very picky about food when I was a kid. But I hated some of them only like brinjal, pumpkin, spinach to name a few. But as I grew up and I tasted them I actually started liking few of them. But to tell the truth even now I don't like to eat some of them like brinjal. As now I have to cook my food myself so I have choice what to cook and what not to.

yes when they get older some sense is knocked into them so they become less picky. But still some things remain that we don't like to eat even when grow old.

Well, I am still picky about food, but I surprise people. I guess I eat things that picky people don't usually eat. Of course, I still don't like brussel sprouts or peas. I have tried them over and over again, but I still don't like peas. Brusell sprouts, I still can't stand the smell of, let alone eating those. I have found that I like food that other people don't like, even though I don't like things that most people like. I love seafood. I really enjoy squash. Most people think that is odd since I don't like the regular veggies. But I think squash is pretty tasty, not mushy like peas...yuck.

About brusel sprouts. If you cook them al dente, fry smoked bacon in a good quantily, put the sprouts to soak in that lard and then out some spicy bread croutons you will forget about the "typical" Brussel sprouts. Serve it with roast beef of any other roast meat.

i was picky then and i'm picky now. this is definitely not good as it will be really troublesome for the family especially our mothers to cook for us. i'm now learning this fact as my older son is just like me, really picky about his food and that is giving me a big headache. i too hope that he will change like you and become a better eater, unlike me. fortunately my younger daughter has a really good appetite so that is one less headache there.

Were the opposite actually.^_^ Id eat almost anything when I was a kid from fruits to vegetable to 'unidentified Mama's cooking'.LOL Id say I was quite adventurous. But during my teen years I really avoided vegetables. Id be very picky about them. If I didnt like that food, Id look for something else in the fridge or in the cupboards. I just didnt like how it felt in my mouth. Now, that Im almost leaving the 'teen' years, I starting to renew my liking for vegetables. Not that Ill eat all of the vegetables but Im eating some of it bit by bit trying to let myself be accustomed to it.^_^

I was the same as you. When I was 5 I wouldn't eat a thing. Then when I became a teenager I started eating anything and I was hungry all the time. It's actually the same with all species. A good example are butterflies. When in larva stage they eat anything they see- mostly leaves because they have to store energy which will later be use in the cacoon state. When they reach adulthood they stop eating rapidly and gain an eating cycle- just like us.

Well, I am picky about food even now…basically I enjoy food which has to be tasty. It need not have expensive ingredients or fancy items, simply home cooked food but only those preparations which I like. I didn’t have problems with veggies or fish or meat…only the dishes served. Though my mom tried to cook them as I like, but she had to keep other’s in mind too…and then some dishes were elaborate preparations and she did not make them very often. So if the food was not tasty, I would spend hours just chewing them on and on and of course the food became cold and all the more unpalatable and then mom started shouting…you can well imagine the situation!

I was very picky eating food when I was young... I might be a little better now, but I am still very picky about my food. I have a son now that is very picky and I can now understand what my mom went through dealing with me... but she told me to choose my battles and kids need very little to survive on so it wasnt a problem and when my son gets hungry he will eat... so I am not so worried about his eating habits anymore. I cant get him to eat veggies a whole lot, but I can get him to eat fruits and breads, and even he loves V8 juice so I figure he is getting a decent amount of what he needs that way.. my daughter is only 18 months so I dont know if she will be picky or not... but I will deal with it since I am still picky too!! LOL Happy mylotting.

Most kids would be choosy about veggies. I am also crying when i see veggies as our food. But then our parents taught us that we have to be thankful for the food we get because some people don't even have food to eat. So when we realize how fortunate we are because we are still eating three times a day, not including snacks, we stopped complaining and know how hard life is specially how my parents work. I don't like capsicum and french beans before. But when my mom cooks it and tell us how nutritious these veggies are, we siblings tried, till we got used of the taste. We even eat the bitter gourd and most veggies that my mom cooks because she is from the north, an Ilokana so she like veggies, and that passed unto us. We will also prepare veggies for our future kids. And teach them too not to be choosy.

Your mom.. I mean my mom always cook the food I like. When I was a little little girl, I hate eating carrot very much, I think it is so smelly when it hasnt been cooked. And even when it has been cooked, I think it's disgusting. When I was little, my sister hate celery a lot, just like you^_^. But I like it. But now it's different~! I dont know am I picky. But I think I like eating everything that can be eaten.

Hi, i was just like you when i was young and that was a pretty long time ago. I hated food of all types but i liked any curry that had to do with potatoes(who doesn`t) and Ladysfinger.I was also a very poor and very slow eater and i always used to finish last and because of that i was very weak and anemic and stunted. In fact whenever i travelled by public transport i was given a half ticket as i looked under age. This went on till i was 17 years and then again just like you, i started eating properly and as a result i started putting on weight and my height and waist(which at that time could have been the envy of all the supermodels) began growing and i now felt more like a man than a kid. I started going to the gym and soon had a muscular body which i was very proud of.Now i have become old but i still maintain my body though not in the way i used to. I do eat everything but still am a little finicky.Lol.

I was trained and disciplined by my father to be glad to have food on the table every single day and not to grumble about it. I guess what he said to me was true after all.Why should I be picky, and I should have been glad for the full meal on the table for not everyone is that fortunate to have a full meal everyday and some doesn't even have a single meal at all. However, nowadays I have been having good food only since I earned my own money and often dine out with my friends. I think it is about time for me not to be picky anymore again!

Yes I was choosy about many vegetables and my mom had a really tough time making me eat what was cooked, as I grew up my tendency changed and I started having some of them. But, when I got married I started eating even the vegetable which I used to hate more in fear that my inlaws may feel bad if I rejected anything, slowly I started eating everything and now there is nothing which I do not like, and my physical appearance is a good proof for this. ( I have started looking bulky now, and was v.v. lean even when I got married.)

In my earlier childhood days, I also picky like u to foodstuffs like spinach and vegetables. But my mom always used to compel me to eat all kinds of vegetables. My cousin also doesn't like to eat vegetables but my aunt will not compel him to eat vegetables. Suddenly my cousin faced serious illness due to lack of malnutrition and doctor advised him to eat as much vegetables as possible. Then i realised that my mom cared so much for my health and after that i willingly ate all types of vegetables that my mom prepares without hesitation.
