Hi All, Did you like the Film Braveheart? Or did you just like it because Mel. Gibson was in it? Been some time back now since it was made but it was quite a polemic film at the time. Do you agree with Longshanks and his Merry Men or are you with Wallace?

I found this old post you made when answering another, So typical of mylot! I started to be a Mel Gibson fan with his sevral funny movies about cops. Mortal Weapon 1, 2 ,3 and 4. I love a witty movie and had fun with them. I liked Braveheart enough as to watch it again when they give it on TV, but as Mel Gibson goes, I think his best movie was The Passion of the Christ although I could not stop crying when I saw it. I have seen many very good historiacal movies along the years, but there are themes that are not easy to show from a different angle and that was the cas of Th Pasion... I had not seen a movie about Christ so moving since I saw JesusChrist Superstar many decades ago, when I was young.

Fortunatly in my country the movies we see at the theater are not in Spanish, but with a translation (which is not very accurate many times). I haven´t seen Ben Hur since I was very young. Probably I should take it from the Blockbuster. They give it in Semana Santa here on TV but it´s in Spanish. Romans were no better or worse than any other conquering country. I read a couple of decades ago Nikos Kazantzakis´s Cristo nuevanmente crucificado. (couldn´t find the title in English). It´s a moving novel that shows how we crucify Christ over and over again. Kazantzaki is the greatest 20th century greek author with novels such as Zorba the greek.

Hiya marguicha, Yes they were no worse in some ways but they were very cruel indeed what they did to others. I am related to People from Scotland and Ireland perhaps that is why I have such a deep feeling for this accent in particular and he does portray it really well. I can almost believe that he is William Wallace apart from knowing that is only a Film. I love Ben Hur the Jesus giving the Water scene transcends all barriers of any kind for me. It never fails to move me to tears always. You are lucky to get subtitles then. You should hear the translation of Ben Hur it is quite funny in parts. Just my wicked sense of humour (grin). Hiya Margi, Passion Of Christ Film I think I would have to watch it again on my own you know as Jorge was watching it and he did not like it very much at all. Listening to them speaking in Aramaic as well was quite fascinating too. I liked it yes but with the "See if there is something else on" going on in the Background all the time I could not concentrate on it very much (grin). Actually one of my favourite Epic Films about Jesus is Ben Hur for me it says everything okay the bit where Judan Ben Hur calls "for help" to put it one way is a bit very quick on the spot help I wish the help I pray for would happen as quick as that (grin). But it´s how they portray Jesus when he is giving him the Water to drink and his very presence defies any other to stop them from preventing Jesus giving him water to drink. This has so much meaning to me. What I mean is they give Water to all other to drink except Ben Hur. Jesus´s presence defies the Roman Authority thank God for that I thought the Romans to be very cruel indeed at least their Soldiers and Emperors what callous cold hearted People they were indeed. While this has nothing to do with Mel Gibson it´s the best Jesus bit I have ever seen. It is perhaps the only scene I will ever remember. Love Mel Gibson in Braveheart he gives so much to that part that if you hear it in Spanish I want to cringe sometimes as they have stripped the feeling out of it like eating an Apple with no peel on it. The Scottish Accent he uses is brilliant really brilliant considering he is not Scottish he puts so much into that. I love it when he talks in French to Murron telling her that he loves her and she laughs saying oh you´re showing off now. Also love the bit where he is with the Princess who would not? Hope he comes out of his "crisis" soon he has such lovely blue eyes too. Could I go on? You bet but I don´t want to bore everyone (grin) to tears. Thanks for finding me margi luvya.xxx

Hiya AR, I have written so much about it on here but I never really tire of watching the Film itself except for the ending. I watch it till where the Princess pleads for his life and the very cold uncaring King just brushes her away. But the music score at the end is what I do listen to more than anything else. I can´t bear to watch Wallace´s end really. It´s way too sad.

Hello my dear. I have appreciated Braveheart and more importangly the speech he have to inspire his troops - way better then the "speech" given in the recent Immortals movie, which was complete rubish compared.

Hiya elitess, Certainly was a stirring speech full of inspiration. It was very moving for me as well. It comes across very well and you can imagine that is how he would have conveyed what he wanted to say to them. Have not seen that movie that you mention yet. Trailers about the newest films are very few and far between here so I am not even sure what it is about. If they do have a trailer on its very short and you might get to see a bit. For example the Django Film trailer has been on a very short two times so far.xxx

I am Wallace through and through. Braveheart is a very good movie. Showed us the courage within can be unleashed when called for.

Hiy eileen, He was indeed courageous and although nowadays he would have many enemies then people like him were the only ones that would have like an icon to encourage people to stand up for themselves. In History at School he is depicted as a common criminal that I do remember reading what a shame that they did not recognize his worth on all the other levels. I am sure he would not have gone into Battle if they would have listened to him his enemies I mean but that´s life for you. Cruelty has no place anywhere not then or now. He would have been a great Politician and a great mediator without the use of the Sword. Winston Churchill recognized his bravery and that is a great thing too. I think anyone that is driven to the point of starvation would probably react the same.

Hiya best, Mel. Gibson has to be one of the best Actors around. I also liked him in "The Patriot" another kind of hero but more forward to these times. William Wallace was a very brave Man to stand up to those tyrants very brave indeed.

Hiya Trillion, I have always liked most of Mel. Gibson´s Films anyway. So Braveheart was like the Cherry on the Top of the Cake so to speak. He portrayed William Wallace like no other. I don´t think that there will be another Actor that will be able to play the role of William Wallace as well as what he has done. Performance to remember for all of us.

i do indeed agree with you... he is the BEST.

Braveheart is an excellent movie. Actually one for the ages worth seeing again and again and again. I would have never wanted to see it just for Mel Gibson, even though he does have some good movies out there besides this. I was interested in seeing this movie because I heard it was good, and boy am I glad that I did. It really is a Classic for the ages.

Hiya KH, It´s a Film that will go a long way to being remembered for a very long time. I think it will be a Classic in the end like Ben Hur and Quo Vadis are. Films like those I remember too and not just because somebody famous was in it. The whole theme of the Film was very well done and there was a good continuity all the way through you could not lose your interest in such a Film. Sorry I keep calling it Film I know you call it a Movie it´s where I am from I suppose. There will be other Films to that will become classic Movies in the future. At least I hope so but Braveheart says a lot more than it being about William Wallace. Have a great Day KH. I know I have taken a bit of time to get back to you. But I did get here in the finish.

Hiya shibham, Mel Gibson is one of my favourites too he is so versatile. Other Film I liked was "The Patriot" and also others he has done but those two are my favourites of all time. In the Cinema here when they showed Braveheart everyone was applauding him the same as they did with "Rambo". They all made so much noise it was impossible to hear the Film itself.

hello there, It was one of the greatest that i have ever watch. and the reason why it was one of the best for me it's because this was based on true story. i believe one mans quest freedom has enflamed others. most specially when he was executed in front of his own people. then teh duke made a large strike to defeat the british. temporarily before he got captured.

Hiya letran, So glad you enjoyed the Film it´s a very watchable Film there are many Characters woven into the Story itself. I liked the Irish Man (madman) David O´Hara he was really good with his "Its my Ireland". I loved the wicked character of Longshanks too what a wicked person he is the King well history has it that he was the first King to unite the United Kingdom as it is now. William Wallace paid a very high price for the freedom of his People indeed he did.

Hi tweet007121, Mel Gibson´s other Movies are great too but I don´t have any of them at the moment in English except for the Braveheart one and it took me ages to get hold of it in the Store. They had to send away specially for it with it being in English. If you hear it in Spanish it spoils a good part of the feeling of the Film because there are no Scottish Accents the dialogue is also changed too and the meanings. There is not one Movie of Mel´s that I don´t like but this particular one is my favourite. Regards.

Hi joygracia, Again thanks for posting a comment. I´m not able to see how English People feel about this Film specially those from my Hometown. But there you go it´s nice to hear from other People around the world. Braveheart is based on a true story and it never fails to move me at sometime in the Film and I cannot bear to watch the very end because I always want them to live being a big softy. It´s very inspiring the music tells a story if you listen to it. Scotland is as beautiful as it comes out at the beginning of the Film where the narrator says I will tell you a Story of Man called William Wallace. Scotland very green and beautiful lakes. Thanks again have a great summer too. Regards.

Braveheart is one of my favorite movies. I would have to agree with Wallace. Longshanks and his Merry Men were just wrong.

Hi Christina504, Glad to hear from you thank you. I like that Longshanks and his Merry Men because Longshanks in real life was just the opposite of what he was in the Film. He always liked playing Baddies and he relished this role. He really got his teeth into it he almost made me jump when I could hear those footsteps going up the Stairs to have a go at his own Son. He was fearsome.!!! You are right and I am with Wallace too I have distant relatives in Scotland and Ireland but not because of that. I agree with Wallace and his ideas and his ability to rally an army around him in spite of the apalling poverty they endured all their lives. Man of courage in the face of adversity and well written by Randall Wallace also. However at School this is not what comes out in the History Books lol the English History Books when I was at School branded him as evil. There again I´m not into politics at all my theme is just the Film itself. Regards.

Hi comfort51,Mel Gibson at the end of the Film Braveheart is not something I watch very often as I like nice endings in a Film and not that cruel atrocity that took place. Because I don´t want to cry I don´t usually see it I watch Mel. Gibson right up to the end where the princess is pacing up and down in the Castle and Longshanks is living his last moments and that´s it. Have a great day.

Believe it or not, I've never seen the movie. I love Mel Gibson (who doesn't? LOL), but it's not the type of movie I'm usually interested in. I suppose if I started watching it I'd get wrapped up in it, but just haven't been interested in to give it a chance. Glad to see you posting. Now you need to add some friends so people will see it and answer! If you haven't already, take a look at my profile and read the tips.

Hi Ldyjarhead, Thanks for your comments I don´t have a lot of time on here so I will get around to doing somethings. I really like Mel Gibson too have always liked his other Films. It´s a film you can get wrapped up in and Mel does a beautiful Scottish accent considering he´s no a Scot och away with yer now lol. All the supporting cast were outstanding too specially Patrick McGoohan should I say the late Patrick McGoohan who played Longshanks the wicked English King. I thought the whole setup of the Film was excellent and the music also well that wraps this up. Have a great summer everyone.

Hi ellonge, Yes I saw it at the Cinema the first time and it was very crowded in there and we had to stretch our necks like Giraffes to be able to see it. It was in Spanish with English subtitles. It was no shouting hey I´m English lol. The sound was way too loud also so it spoiled it quite a bit. In Spain they are usually very noisy in the Cinema so if you get to see the whole of it you are lucky. Regards.
