Microsoft will be selling Windows 7 later this year. When they do, they will stop supporting XP. 7 is supposed to be a big improvement over Vista which many people dd not buy because of all the reported problems with it (and possibly also the cost). This will create a problem for XP users who want to upgrade to 7. You won't be able to do it. The software won't let you. If you use XP you be be able load 7 BUT you will haveto either do a clean install - which will wipe everything on your hard drive or install 7 as a dual boot operating system. The dual bot will save your files BUT you will have to re-install them on 7 to more directly access them.
This was reported by PC magazine recently. I can't see why microsoft did this UNLESS they are trying to get people to by a copy of Vista to force XP users to upgrade to 7 by going through Vista. This ticks me off because I have been using XP and I recently ordered an upgrade copy of 7 before I heard of this problem. At least fo me, I know an IT guy who should be able to load a copy of Vista before upgrading me to 7. However, it's stil annoyig and it eems like Microsoft is deliberately trying to tick off their customers.

Maybe its difficult to upgrade to Windows 7 but why to upgrade when you are facing such troubles? Windows XP is also good. You can stick to it and avoid the complexities involved in the upgrading process. Better be safe than sorry. :)

But if Microsoft stops supporting XP and stops isuing patches or updates, hackers may focus more on XP and attack those PC's on-line.

Microsoft doen't work tat way. What supprt do they give to Windows 2000. None. They are only interested in money and making you pay. It also costs too much money to keep support an old OS.

Welll, Microsoft is not a Spoilt sport to completely ignore its best seller XP.
It will surely keep XP updated with fixes and patches nomatter howmany new editions comeup.
and If it is not done so, then people will loose trust in Microsoft and will not buy its future poducts too. And Microsoft surely will not like that to happen.

In China, Windows 7 will be much easier than the ones sold in America. Someone feel this is unfair.

Hong Kong used to be a good place to get bootleg copies of software. I assume that may still be so.

I've no intention of changing from XP to Windows 7 - at least not with my present computer, and maybe not at all if 7 turns out to be as buggy as Vista is reported to be. I don't care either if MS, stop supporting it I have good anti - virus and firewall protection and I've never had a problem even though I turned off the update feature for several months. I've turned it back on now because I got tired of seeing the security warnings that it continually put up.

There's nothing to worry about it, Windows 7 has been released several months ago. Some schools here in our country are already using that version.. :D

Upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7 is exactly like upgrading from any previous Windows system to a newer version. It is just like upgrading from Microsoft Office 2003 to Microsoft Office 2007. The files are saved under a new format so you can still access them, but yes when you re-save them they then save under Office 2007 version unless you specify for it not to.
If you had Vista you would still have the same steps to follow. And if you are just choosing to go to Vista again, you will have the same steps to take. You can also buy an upgrade from Best Buy right now for Windows 7 and it is under $60 and it will work with XP.

Have you done the upgrade? If so was it a beta versio since the release date for 7 is Oct 22. Also I assue I would have to upload Windows 7 Professional (best buy cost $199) I used to have Win 2000 Professional and had to upload XP professional. (The regular XP wouldn't upgrade.) The price listed on bestbuy.com for Win 7 Home Premium is $119. (I just checked it.) That's the same price as on Amazon, although I ordered at a pre-issue price of $99.

Upgrade xp to vista, then upgrade vista to windows7. Will it work ?

That should work, since Vista can be directly upgraded to Windows 7. It's the earlier versions of Windows (XP and earlier) that can't be directly upgraded to 7. I recently had a chance to verify this with a friend who supervises an IT support group and help desk operation. I'm looking to him to upgrade my PC's whenever I get my copy of Win 7. To me hink Microsoft did this deliberately to force peopl to buy Vista (and possibly future versions of Windows).

this is how Microsoft make money. That is why Bill Gates is so rich. after few years, they will release new operating systems and stop support for the so called obsolete OS. Indirectly this will force you to buy new license in order to upgrade to latest OS. If you want to avoid this happen to you again and again, then go for LINUX.
