I was just wondering if anyone has ever been published or know someone personally who has been published in the New York Times. It seems to me that sometimes you either have to be God or the President to get something published there :( Maybe I'm just not a great writer.

I don't know if you're a professional writer or not, but if not, then it's unlikely the NY Times would be interested in your work. Since they have a staff of reporters and columnists, they may not even accept freelance submissions. If they do, it would only be from writers with an extensive background of previous publication, and probably mostly in print. This isn't necessarily true of you, but a lot of people who are able to get their work published online have no idea how print publications work. They also tend to think that because they've been published online that their work is good enough for publications like the NY Times. As I said, this may not apply to you. You didn't give any information that would help someone figure out just what the problem is, so I can only offer an opinion based on guesswork.

I was speaking more along the lines of poetry...I myself am not yet technically a "professional" writer whatever that really means, altho i did go to college and take every writing class they had. But by professional meaning, getting paid, yeah not yet.

If you want to get poetry published, the NY Times is definitely the wrong place to try. If you're serious about being published, then you have to spend some time finding out about the publishing industry. Even if the Times did publish poetry, as a beginner, you wouldn't have a chance. Just like anywhere else, you have to start at the bottom and work your way to the top.

I was never published in the paper, but I worked for them. I don't have much respect for them, to be honest. They don't treat their writers well, and they wouldn't publish God, but they would the President as long as he is Obama.
