I have this oatmeal chocolate chip cookie recipe that I got from the owner of a company I used to work for. His family would make these cookies every Sunday and he would bring in some on Monday. They were SO good! So I got the recipe from him before I left there. Here is the problem. Everytime I make them, the cookies seem so much flatter than the ones he would bring to work. How can I make my cookies thicker? Would I add more flour? And I would like them to be softer too, but I don't know how to do that other than cooking them for less time or lowering the temp. Any ideas?

Make them a ball. Don't press them down. Let the heat naturally melt them out. And yes, lower temperature does wonders for making a cookie softer. But keeping them in a ball before baking does really good too.

The only thing I can think of on making them thicker would be like the previous one said...don't flatten them. Otherwise make sure your baking powder is fresh. Sometimes if it is too old they wont raise right. On making them softer this is an old secret of my grandmothers. After they have cooled store them in an airtight container with a slice of bread. I know it sounds crazy but try it and you'll be sirprised. The bread will get hard but the cookies will be very soft...go figure! LOL
