I do. When I read something funny on the internet and it makes me laugh I would comment lol. There is also a rotfl which means "rolling on the floor laughing" I don't think people actually do that one.

I don't chat or text either. But when I type ROFL, which stands for rolling on floor laughing, I truly am laughing that hard. When I type ROFL after something, I've totally gone into fits of laugher.

Every one in my apartment always knows that I have some visitors by my loud gaffows. I am very open and extrovert and just c ontrol my emotions or suppress them.

Okay, but do you laugh out loud when you type LOL during chat... we tend to express our emotion openly... but how do you express it when you cannot see the person whom you are talking to... Thanks for the response...

When I'm chatting with my friends online. I typed "LOL" if I am smiling or they said something funny but not really that funny. But when I said "LOOOOOOOOL!!!!!" that means I really am laughing out soo loud with the Rofl smiley and Sometimes I even put all the laughing expressions like "LOOOL HAHAHAHA =)) rofl lmao" when I can't help myself but laugh so hard.

Sometimes, though not always. And sometimes I use it for other things too, like if I'm being silly or sarcastic. LOL (Nope, I didn't really LOL that time. It just seemed fitting to put at the end of the sentence. ) Happy mylotting!

When I use the term "lol", I'm either snickering, smirking or giggling in real life. So yes, technically I'm laughing "out loud". But if something is thigh-slapping funny, I'll either go into the "Hahahahahah", or use "ROFL". And if something is *really* funny, I'll use "ROFLMAO". I have degrees of entertained-ness. You're really REALLY funny and I'm actually slapping my thighs laughing hysterically if you merit a "ROFLMAO" from me. ;)

morning aseretdd, well if there is something really funny to laugh about yes, then I do laugh out loud. But most of the times, I laugh in silence. Of course, a lot of things are funny and worht laughing about. However, you do not need to be heard. Other wise there is a tale saying...a god laugh do lenghten your life one day. So we really should laugh more often than we really do.

Sometimes I do, but usually when I'm pretending to be LOL it is just with an inner laugh...and a big smile on my face. I would probably say ROFL* if I were really LOL. *Just for the one or two people here who might not know that one, ROFL is Rolling on the Floor Laughing

Hello aseretdd, I do laugh whenever I write 'LOL' but it doesn't mean I really, really lough out loud! It depends on the situation but I can say, it is very rare that I will laugh out very loud - if you understand what I mean... Sometimes when I feel funny and want to laugh, I will make people know by writing 'LOL' too!

Well, LOL is the official chat lingo to tell people we are chatting with if we feel happy or if we find the chat humorous... and i guess that is good since we are able to convey how we feel even if we cannot see the person whom we are talking to... Thanks for the response...

I don't think people are really laughing out loud most of the time when they type 'lol'. Instead they just wanted to describe the way they feel without doing it at all. It is just an expression without really doing physically. Just mere words.

There are a few who responded to this discussion who wrote that they are actually laughing or smiling when they type LOL... but most use it to express what they feel at the moment since they cannot see the person they are chatting with... Thanks for the response...

LOL is like the official chat lingo to use if one finds something amusing about a certain chat conversation... and that is a good thing since we can still show our emotion even if its only three letters... Thanks for the response...

I often type that when I am on instant messaging with my friends and somehow it integrated with my life now and out of the blue in the conversation with friends real time, I would just say LOL, and they will be like stunned for the moment and laugh real loud at me. I think the usage of short forms are very often nowadays and it greatly bring an impact on everyone in this world.

Well, we can include that in the evolution of chat and text message language... i just wonder who in particular started using chat lingo... if i am still in college and studing English or computer... i would surely make a thesis about that subject... Thanks for the response...

This is a funny topic. Yes, I often write LOL when, in fact, I have not laughed out loud, though sometimes I have. As for ROTFL, I can't recall a time when I actually rolled on the floor in laughter, but I have used that one. So yes, I think these expressions are not to be taken literally, they are just things we say when we find something funny. LOL. :-)
